Hi All!
I totally love this new stamp set by Stampin’ Up! My original intention was to make little notes for my girls with it, but it’s great for cards too!
I like the sketched feel of the letters, so I thought, why not add more sketching detail? I outlined the letters with a Copic liner. And since the letters are so dimensional, I decided to create more dimension in the background stripes, which I did with a Versamarker.
I used So Saffron today. I haven’t used that color in forever. I had forgotten what a beautiful, subtle yellow it is. It’s a nice change from the typical sunny, lemony yellow.
We took the kids to Grand Cayman last week. It was such a fun week! There’s so much to do – we swam with dolphins, turtles, and stingrays. My oldest daughter, Alaina, is very adventurous. Here she is swimming with a turtle from underneath:
And here are the three of us on the boat to the stingrays. We all needed a relaxing getaway.
Enjoy the video!

This is a super simple and very effective card. Thanks too for sharing with us your holiday with the girls. The three of you looked so cute together. It is really obvious that you are their Mom!

Love that you added to this stamp set – so clever. This set is on my SU wishlist – if I can get myself to buy more, this will be on the next purchase! Thanks for sharing photos of you and the girls! It’s great to see your faces.

I love the shadowing you did on the background stamp…made it look like you dry embossed it! Kewl card, thanks for sharing!! =)
That pic with your daughter swimming with the turtle is ‘all kinds of awesome’!!!

This is SO COOL!!! I ordered this stamp set after you recommended it, because put notes in my daughter’s lunch every day! I also bought the Notebook ruled-line background stamp. I’m thinking of using your idea and tweaking it with that background instead! Thank you!
Your vacation pictures look amazing too!

Very fabulous card, quick to make too. Love the shadowing on the perfectly white embossed lines, awesome detail.
But what I love the most is the pictures of your girls and you Darlene, WOW!! they have grown!!! The picture of Alaina swimming with the turtle is just fantastic and your little Epic Courtney’s smile tells me she is back to her normal and healthy self.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Maria.
PS. I need to get me one of those white gel pens and one Versa marker, these are great tools to have.
Myra
Darlene, my Versamarker pen didn’t last but a couple of months with very little use. Is there a way to reins one or am I just going to have to buy another so soon? BTW, I love this card. I don’t have this background stamp, but I have an embossing folder like this that I hope I can make this similar to yours. Thanks for the advice on the marker. And anyone who has an idea about it. Myra

Hi Myra, you cannot buy a versa marker from Stampin Up anymore as it is discontinued. Not sure if anyone else sells them, but if you have some versa mark ink refill, you can “refill” your versa marker with it.
Darlene DeVries
Oh I just replied without seeing your comment Carol. I didn’t realize SU doesn’t sell them anymore.
Andrea
Myra, you can probably get a Versamarker at Hobby Lobby, if you have one near you. It’s listed on their website for $3.99, plus you could use their 40% off coupon to make it even less! Simon Says Stamp also sells them, if you can’t get one locally. You could probably also try Ellen Hutson or Scrapbook.com’s websites. HTH! 🙂
Darlene DeVries
Hi Myra. I think you can actually refill a Versamarker by removing the tip and filling with Versamark refill liquid. Not sure how easy it is though, since the ink is fairly sticky (I’ve never tried it myself). I’ve had mine for at least 5 years and it still works great, so yours may be defective if it lasted just a couple of months. If you got it from Satmpin’ Up!, I would ask them for a new one.
Myra
I will try and reink it today, and I will comment after with the results. I’m almost positive I bought it at a big box store as I haven’t ordered from SU since I left as a demonstrator. But I’m going to have to have that Calla Lily stamp set soon.
Caly
I bought mine on Amazon 🙂

What a terrific card. The diagonal stripes really add to the graphic feel of this. Great masculine card, too. You’re so meticulous with your assembly.

Thank you for a lovely crisp card. It’s funny how one forgets little tips like the shadowing with the Versamark Pen. I always find some kind of tip in your videos Darlene. Thanks for sharing. Love the card. I also love the etch look.
calex89
I LOVE the shadowing you got by lining the stripes with a Versamarker!
I also love the pictures. Thank you for sharing them. Aren’t you glad Alaina is so confident?!
Darlene DeVries
Yes, definitely! It has been a long middle-school road. She starts 9th grade this year and is the happiest she’s ever been in her life. It’s such a joy to see. 🙂 Now I just need to get Courtney through middle school. Ha!
calex89
I was a teacher, and I used to tell people that I’d taught every level from PreK to adults except for middle school–because I’m not crazy! 🙂 It’s a tough time!
Darlene DeVries
Yes! And when you’re going through it, you think “this is my life now”. It’s hard to imagine that it ends, but thank goodness it does. 🙂
Annette
Thanks so much for the tips on using the Versamarker and the White Gel Pen. I love the idea of this card.
