White Watercolor Flowers

Hi All!

A quick announcement that Ellen Hutson is having 20% off all in-stock merchandise today through Friday. Use code summersavings15 at checkout. My order this morning included the IO Sketched Roses, Next Level embossing folders, Cross Hatch stamp, Hero Arts red ombre and green ombre (Christmas!), and several Copic refills. With the sale, refills are only $5.40 and markers are $4.80. That’s a serious deal. I would shop early because things tend to run out during a sale.

Oh, also, it’s Prime Day at Amazon. I’m kind of excited to see what this is all about. I’ve been a prime member for years and I love it.

Today I decided to try my hand at creating white flowers by coloring just the shadows with black. As usual, the most challenging part is knowing when to stop coloring! It’s so hard to leave parts blank or uncolored. I think it was a good exercise for me, lol!

I used a watercolor paper by Canson called Canva-Paper. It’s 136 lb and has the texture of linen. It’s beautiful paper and the watercoloring was very easy with it. Here is a close-up photo of the texture:

My paintbrush is Loew-Cornell 7020 Ultra Round, #6. I purchased it at my local craft store.

I used my black Zig Clean Color brush to highlight the darkest shadows, similar to the highlights I did on the butterfly card from last week.

Hi Darlene: I went into EH site and could not find any copic refills for $5. Any idea why?

      Darlene DeVries

They are listed as $6.75, but with the discount, it’s less. And my math is wrong, duh – it’s $5.40. And the markers are $4.80. Still a great deal, but I corrected the post. The discount is taken at checkout.

    Whimsical Creations

WOW – absolutely stunning! I’m confident I wouldn’t know when to stop! 😉

I definitely agree the gray shading outside the flowers but also the deep black shadows on the outside of the flowers really make them pop from the page. Awesome job!!

Darlene, I really enjoyed watching you create this card. That stamp set is on my wish list. Love the tips on shading. Thank you!

Oh WOW!! Darlene, this is just gorgeous!!! I’m so glad you used this paper, I love the texture of it, it really looks like canvas. This flowers look amazing just with the black shadows and the little pop of color of their yellow centers.
I also found out that this Water Color paper’s surface feels a bit waxy, although it takes tons of water with no problem and the colors blend beautifully, but it’s better to use the liquid glue, I use Tacky glue and it works perfectly.
Thank you for sharing this lovely card.

    So cool!

Spent too much at Ellen’s, although after seeing your post and Sandy Allnock’s, I’m thinking I might need to go back. lol Amazon was pretty much a bust, at least as far as anything crafty goes. Disappointing.
