Wednesday’s Card: Watercolor Butterfly

Watercolor Butterfly

Happy New Year!!

My first post is on the first day of 2014 – yeah!!

I used my Inktense Pencils to create this watercolor background. The butterflies in the Social Butterfly set by Penny Black are perfect on this background – the highlights are black and the lowlights show the watercolor background. I used Hero Arts black cardstock for my base because it is black on one side and white on the other, so you don’t have to add an extra layer – how nice is that? Another new product I just got is the Simon Says Stamp Postage Stamp Edge Frames. I love how the set comes with a square.

I spent a lot of the holiday break moving my craft room. I took over a bigger room in our house with lots of sunlight – I love it! It’s still in transition, but I will definitely do a tour when it’s done. In today’s video I showed my new magnetic die storage. I actually spent a bunch of money and time before deciding on the magnetic cards from Stamp-n-Storage. I couldn’t be happier with them!

I spent the last few days trying to craft some cards. I say “trying” because that’s what it felt like. I don’t think the break was very good for my mojo. This card was really the only one I liked, so I went with it. And so now I can’t sleep because I’m trying to eek some creativity out of my brain, lol. Well, things can only go up from here I suppose. 🙂

Anyhoo… here’s to a great 2014!! Happy New Year to all of you!

Uhm….not to make light of you feeling no mojo (that’s never fun) but we should all be so lucky as to have our kickin’crafty days be as good as your low mojo days! This is a beautiful card! I’m thinking your mojo is just getting warmed up in the sunlight of the new craft room, not to worry….or I should say we’re not worried that your creative & gifted juices will be flowing soon! Happy New Year! = )

Well Darlene, I’m late in posting but today was a much needed REST AND RECOVERY day from the awesome party to ring in the New Year at my daughter’s house. We also celebrated my granddaughter Anastasia’s 9th. birthday so, it was double the fun. We are a big family, we love to dance and play games, eat and drink and make lots of noise. We came back at around 3am. exhausted but very happy. Anyway, your card is so pretty, love the way you used the Inktense pencils, I really like this for water coloring.
I’m sending best wishes for a Joyful and Healthy 2014 for you and your beautiful family.
    Hugs.
    Maria.

Hi Darlene and Happy New Year to you and your family. You start the year with a beautiful card. I’ve got watercolor pencils by Koh-I-Noor and I’m just thinking about investing in some better quality ones. So I’ve bought some single colors by Faber Castell and Derwent and this is the perfect project to start a comparison. I also love the butterfly stamp set – need to check out where to get it. I simply love your clean and beautiful cards and your process of creating them.

    Greetings from Germany

Another very pretty card! Thank you for posting your new way of storing your dies…I’d like to ask you, do they stay on pretty well? I am looking for something to store my dies and like your idea the best but was wondering if the dies fall off when stored.
Thank you, Darlene and Happy New Year (a day late!)

Kathy, I will post a video about it in the next few weeks if you want to wait, but I am very happy with them. They do not fall off, and the cards do not stick to one another when stored.

Love this card (and all of your projects!!). Quick question: on the stampnstorage magnetic cards, did you get the box they make to store them or what are you using to store them? Thanks!

    • wrote on January 3rd, 2014 at 3:54 pm

      Darlene DeVries

Hi Kimberli…No, I didn’t get the wooden holder – I thought it was too expensive. I found a small photo box at JoAnn’s that works great. Stay tuned for a video in the next couple of weeks!

Came to look for my Jan 8 video and realized I had missed the January 1st one! And what a great one it was! I love, love, love how you created the background with the Inktense pencils. So soft and pretty! And love that striking butterfly! Great looking card, Darlene!

I would to know what makes this magnetic sheet so good.
I have purchased the Artbin Magnetic Die Sheets because I did not know any other options but I do not think they are so magnetic.

    Thanks for your opinion

Carmen, they are the perfect size, fit into a little box, hold the dies securely, and don’t stick to one another. I love them. I’ll give more details next week.
