Hi All!
I used a technique today where I inked up some cardstock and then stamped it with water. The water removes the ink I applied, giving the look you see above with the flowers.
For comparison purposes, I tried this technique with watercolor paper. It did not work well at all. The water didn’t leave a good stamp impression. So, I recommend using just plain old white cardstock. I used Neenah, as usual. Is there anything this cardstock is NOT good for? Ha ha.
I splurged on the Avery Elle Custom Panels die set. I loved the idea of having all these new edge opportunities for cards, plus it has a spacer (the “X” in the set). I’ll have to try that one out and report back later.
I used Ultra Thick Embossing Powder on my sentiment. It’s basically just a very thick, granular embossing powder. I love how shiny and raised up it made my sentiment. I also used it on the background hearts of THIS CARD.
Oh, and I referenced the magnetic cards that I store my dies on. You can get them HERE.
Enjoy and have a great week!

Beautiful color combinations! I have that ultra thick powder that is way back on my shelf and never used. Now I can’t wait to try it on some word dies. Will you show some more cards using that Avery Elle die set? I’m interested in how those pieces work. Thanks for sharing!!
Darlene DeVries
Yes, I plan to use that set again Richell!
Pam K.
I was wondering where you purchase your magnetic card panels? It looks like a fantastic way to store thin die cuts.
Thanks!
Darlene DeVries
Pam, I get them HERE.

Love your colors Darlene! I looked at those Avey Elle dies also, but I make 5×7 cards mostly and couldn’t figure out how to use something that’s specifically designed for the A2 size. Beautiful card!! Thank you for the inspiration!!

What a great video! I love how you speed things along and get the job done. I never thought to dip the cut out sentiment into embossing powder – brilliant! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Darlene!
OMG ….what a GORGEOUS CARD! I love the color combination and the stamping with water technique…so cool! I also love the way you design your card layouts…you are always so creative! Thanks for sharing! Have a great day 🙂

Great ideas of ‘water stamping’ and the use of UTEE e.p. I have the capability for both techniques and will surely make use them. My response is similar to Richell’s – I’ve had UTEE since the early days of my stamping and don’t think I’ve ever used it for anything. (I even have the ‘melting pot’
designed for using quantities of it that has never been used!) Thanks for sharing.

Fun techniques and a bright and cheery card. Thanks for the tutorial!

hi Darlene
such a lovely card to make
Please can you give some measurement from the strips cardstock and size of the card
thank you
Darlene DeVries
Hi Magda, the card is 4.25×5.5″. The strips are just a random height I picked – somewhere around 4″ or so.
Margaret
Another great card Darlene. Love that stamp technique so will definitely give it a go. Thanks
Celeste Goff
What a pretty card Darlene! But then all of your cards are pretty.

I love this new way to water color, I never thought about it but it makes sense. I love the colors you used but most of all, I love the look the embossing powder gives to the die cut letters, it gives them a fantastic dimension and luster, really fabulous.
I too look forward to your Wednesday videos Darlene and, when you surprise us with a video on another day of the week, it’s truly fantastic.
Thank you so much for the inspiration.

Awesome card Darlene, haven’t made a card with this technique in years, must give it a try again soon. Your die cut words with the UTEE gives the card a perfect pop.

Super card — thanks for sharing!

Darlene – another amazing card. Can’t wait to try this technique. You are just too talented!!
Anita Holmrd
First let me say how glad I am to have found your site, I love your work. I love listening to your voice explaining everything so gently and so thoroughly. Thank you for sharing your talent! I do have a question however, I looked at your video tour of your craft room and saw that you had all your Tim Holtz distress inks face up. I thought you had to store them upside down so the ink stays near the top of the pad? Am I wrong in assuming this? Thanks ahead of time for taking the time to help me.
Anita
Darlene DeVries
Hi Anita, I store mine upright and haven’t had any issues. I do store some of my other ink pads upside down when I can. Honestly, I think it’s the best way to store them if it’s feasible. They need to put labels on the bottom!
Anita Holmes
Thanks so much, let me say again…I love your work! Please keep sharing!
Only have one complaint, I wish it was more often…LOL!
Susan Berry
Love the card, technique and colors you used.
