Wednesday’s Card: Tri-fold Shutter Owl Party!

Owl Shutter Party

Hi All!

I saw my first tri-fold shutter card a few weeks ago at Alesia’s house (she is my Stampin’ Up! upline). I thought it was so cool! Well, I went home and searched the web for this fantastic and creative idea. I found out that I have been out to lunch on this one… this concept has been out for a long time and there are tons of examples out there. I found this blog entry (from 2 years ago!) with the measurements and decided to go with it. Creating the base card was actually quite easy. Getting the card all decorated with a theme was what took me so long!

This month is my sister’s birthday, so if anyone deserves a card like this, it’s her. Do you seriously want to know the real amount of time it took me to make this card? Let’s just say that this is the longest video I have ever posted. This card took longer than the pop-ups. I think part of the reason is because I decided to make the first one on video, so I had no practice and no plan. I’m really happy with the way it turned out though – I wanted it to be very festive and colorful. I think she’ll like it!

I decided to create a montage of Norah Jones songs to span the video – I always get a lot of good feedback when I use her songs. Her voice is incredible!

Here are the measurements I used:

  • Score a sheet of 5.5″ x 12″ sheet of paper at 2″, 4″, 8″, and 10″.
  • Measure 1.5″ from the top and from the bottom. Cut across the card at this point from the 2″ score to the 10″ score.

Enjoy and have a great week!

This card is So Fun! I made my first tri-fold card a month ago and love making them. I just ordered the two-step owl, an oval punch and a bunch of cardsock, inks lol my order was $315 I am so excited to get it. I am now wishing I had ordered the woodgrain background I second guessed myself I didn’t think I’d get much use of it. Thank-you for posting your Beautiful cards they’re so inspiring.

This is Perfection in a Card! I love your blog and your videos are an inspiration each and every one – but I LOVE the videos that show you in the creative process of planning – like this one. You try this and that, you make your decision and there you have it! I love watching this process and it makes me smile every time. I love detail and this card has it as well as being so colorful and happy. It is very time consuming but so worth the effort! I love this card!

Wishing you a happy weekend – thank you for all that you share!

@Arlene – I used a Scor-Pal in this video, but I just recently bought the Stampin’ Up! Score Board and like it a lot better… it has score lines every 1/8″.
