I wanted to do another owl card, but I wanted it to be different. And, as usual, I was lying in bed thinking about my next card instead of sleeping. That’s when I thought of the pop-up and spent a BUNCH of time (way more than I had!!) the next day experimenting with it.
I created 2 versions – a simple one and an advanced one. I actually did the advanced one first – that’s me trying to overdo it my first time out of the gate. Then, I decided I needed something a little more basic to show how to do it, so I created the simple version. Watch the simple one first because I slow it down to show you how it works.
After you watch the advanced one, you’ll see that there are so many things you can do with the technique!! I created a PDF with a sketch and measurement for each card to help you (see links below) – I know the video is fast!

What is Ranger Ice Stickles? Where can I get it?
Denise
I am so Happy I found your site. You have inspired me by your creative cards. I just made my first pop-up card with my owl punch and I love it!!! So creative and fun. I am not speedy with the owl so it took me quite some time to get the card finished. You make it look so Easy lol. Just wondering what you use to pick the tiny eye dots up I find them hard to pick up and place in the right spot. I have sent links to your site to my Mom and my friends who make cards.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Denise! I use the tip of a paper piercer. It works great!! You just need to dip the tip into a little bit of the glue to make the little pieces stick to it. I actually have two piercers – one that I use for this purpose and one that I use for real paper piercing. Thanks for watching!
Joani
OMGoodness! Darlene ~ this is awesome!! I was poking around SCS and then I saw that you were on Stampin’ Connection also. I am so glad that I clicked on your blog!! This card is simply adorable!! Thank you for the PDF and the video, I’m going to make this for the numerous birthdays that I have in September. You are a wonderful papercrafter and I’ll be back for more Ü
Hugs,
Joani

I have been trying to find the “Party Hearty” stamp set. Stampin Up, does not show them on their site unless I have been looking in the wrong category?
Sandy
I just watched your video on the owl. What do you use to pick up small objects?
Darlene DeVries
Hi Sandy – it’s a paper piercer that has some adhesive on the tip. I use it for unclogging glue bottles, so it has become one of my most useful tools!
debbie metoyer
I love these popup cards. Your instructions are so easy. Will use for many different cards. Ibwanted to ask about the music. Who is singing? Loved it.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Debbie – the songs are by the Indigo Girls.

Hi Darlene, sorry, I think I posted the wrong link before, it should have been: http://craftykazzascardmaking.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/owl-birthday-pop-up-card.html
Thanks for commenting anyway, I got it through my email :o)

I LOVE the owl punch and your clever ideas. I’ve made several cards and they are always a hit. I just sat and punched out pieces and put them together until I had a large envelope of owls in various vest patterns, eye positions, etc. I can just go to that envelope and find an owl/owls for the card I want to make and go to it. I found the Party Hearty hat punch online, so that makes cutting out the party hats much easier (but it was pricey, as it’s no longer available). Thank you so much for sharing your ideas.
Summerblues
Hi , I love your owl cards, unfortunately I’m not able to access the PDF’s with the detentions, are they liked correctly?
Darlene DeVries
I just checked and they link correctly for me. Do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer?

Not sure what had happened before, now I’m able to get them to open. Can’t wait to make them. I love your owl cards.
