Wednesday’s Card: Pleasant Poppies with Copics

Pleasant Poppies

Hi All!

This week I got back to using some of my new Stampin’ Up! products – I just love this new background stamp. I used it as a focal point for this card, but I can also easily see using it as a tone-on-tone background. And don’t you love the purple background stamp? It’s called Netting, and Stampin’ Up! has had it for awhile. But I didn’t notice it in the catalog right away. It’s so subtle – it adds just the right amount of interest without distracting.

I used Copics to color them. The last time I colored poppies I used red. I don’t know if purple poppies exist, so I figured the person who receives this card likely won’t know either, LOL!! So, why not?

I did encounter a problem during coloring – you can check out the video to find out. You may be able to figure it out by looking at the photo above. 🙂 And gosh, so sorry for being so chatty this time! When I watched the video afterward I thought, geez, could I ramble more?? Sorry about that!!

One more thing – just a quick thank you again to all of you who leave such nice comments and send me emails. I read every single one of them. I am always amazed at how thoughtful so many of you are. Heartfelt thanks. 🙂

Darlene

What a beautiful card! Even if the colorless didn’t work, it still look fantastic!

P.S.: I tried the background from the previous video for a sympathy card. It turned out great! I forgot to take a picture of it and mailed it out to a friend.
I used a new (on used) clear cutting mat from SU! and from there I followed your technic. I was very pleased of the result. Thank you for replying to my question on the previous video.

    Thank’s

This card is so pretty Darlene! Just when I think, “I don’t need any purple copics” you show a beautiful card in purple. I think I just need to get every color. 😉 I can’t wait to get my pleasant poppies stamp! Thanks for the great ideas on how to use this stamp!

You are the best colorist I’ve ever watched and so easy to comprehend because you explain everything so well. Who cares if poppies aren’t violet. They are now.

Gorgeous card. I love your videos and the great way that you explain copic coloring. I think I’ve gotten better at my own copic coloring following your examples.

Just beautiful! You make everything look so simple!
When I do Copic coloring it looks like a toddler who can’t color in the lines! LOL! But I’m learning and your videos help!

    And you don’t ramble….you make sense! 🙂

Dear Darlene: As always, you did a wonderful job. Who knows? maybe there are some beautiful purple/lilac popies out there! The thing about stamping is that, really, you can use any color to create a card. This one is stunning.
Now, about your “rambling”…..LOVE IT!! you have a sweet voice and no one could ever get tired of listening to you.
Thank you so much for this weeks card and I will look forward, (as always) for next Wednesday’s.
    Maria.

    Hi Darlene!
I you had not mentioned it I would not have know that this was not perfect! I love it and think it is absolutely beautiful!

I am wondering ab0ut your colorless blender. Do you think it needs to be re-inked? Was it dry? Or do you think that you have gotten Colored pencil in the nib…I have heard not to use Copics on top of colored pencils. Something about the wax “gumming” up the nibs. It is ok to color w/ pencil over copics but not to color copics over pencils. Just a thought.

    Blessings,
    Valerie

Hi Valerie – the marker is dead on both sides, so I think there’s just no more ink. There are refills, but I couldn’t wait to order one online. So, I just picked up a new pen at Michaels. The refills are definitely the way to go though!

Pleasant Poppies is fast becoming my favourite stamp – and , of course, I love it even more when I see you use it. I had to laugh when you stated in the video “Here I go again with the blender than’s not working”. Your ability to poke fun at yourself has to be one of the reasons your videos are so endearing and why we feel we even have a hope of coming close to whatever gem you have created this week!

Absolutely LOVE this card! Your copic coloring technique never fails to capture my interest – I could watch your videos over and over! I need a birthday card for a very special friend…and guess which stamp just came in the mail! I’ll be inking it up and making this card – and giving you credit for the inspiration of course! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity, I (along with so many others) look forward to your videos each week!
Thought about your daughter this weekend – I picked up a German Wirehaired Pointer that I had raised as a puppy from a home in Kentucky. We’re so happy to have her back in our home. Hope the pups your daughter has been helping are finding homes.

The colour is stunning, even if poppies aren’t purple. I certainly wouldn’t be worried if the card was coming to me….. I’d appreciate the effort and attention you have gone to with your technique. Love that netting stamp too, might have to check if it is in the Aussie catalogue an put it on my list.

Good morning! Love this card, love all of your cards! I agree with all the other gals, you make coloring with Copics easy to follow. My daughter and I have been watching Craft Wars and I thought I read on your blog that you would be appearing; am I dreaming this or do you have a date when you will be on? Thanks so much for sharing your creativity, I look forward to Wednesdays a whole lot more!

Beautiful card. One of these days I am going to bite the bullet and try some copics. And I love that you made the poppies purple. How fun! Love Wednesdays!

This card is so elegant. It is beautifully colored and had I not watched the video, I would have thought the flowers were 3 dimensional. They look so real. I always enjoy your tutorials and love how inspired I feel afterwards.
