Hi All,
I thought it was time for a pop-up card. And, of course I love to make them using owls. I found this cute little build-an-owl set and matching die. I just noticed they have another owl set that fits the die. So sweet! And relatively inexpensive too. Side note: Simon Says Stamp has free shipping on orders over $75 through May 31st. Use code DSC799 at checkout.
I tried to keep the outside simple to (1) save time and (2) make the inside seems so much more exciting. Here is a look at the outside of the card, which is 4 1/4″ square by the way:
Here’s a view from the top:
I colored the back of the owl too, just in case someone looks back there!
I got a new woodgrain stamp. I love this one because it has a thicker grain, it has some really interesting texture, and best of all, it stamps portrait or landscape because it measures 6″x6″. Yay!
I’m also loving my new branch die. I’ve been searching and searching for the perfect branch die for my owls and this is definitely it. I wanted something realistic but not too realistic, thick, and without too many branches.
The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn’s Lucky Stars, which I have paired with the tiny star background quite a bit.
Anyway, about this video. I tried to do the thing where I explain what I’m doing while I’m doing it, but the video was way too long (I probably should have used this method on a simpler card). So, I went back to my usual format. Unfortunately, my hands are moving a lot in the video because I was talking while I worked. I hope you don’t get dizzy from it! Try to bear it for this card and it will be better next time.
Enjoy and have a great week!

Love it!! So adorable and I was wondering how to make a pop-up card – thanks for showing how to. You are so creative and talented. Also, someone asked in the comments about the sentiment and you had mentioned in the video it is Lawn Fawn “lucky stars” sentiment. Thanks!!

What a CUTE card! You always give such great tips. Loved the template for a solid die tip, and the way you held the colorless marker to make the feathers. Thank you for your great tips and ideas!

Love it, love it! I hadn’t realize how adorable owls can be in a card. What I really enjoyed about this card is that you made the inside the focal point and not the front great idea, Darlene! This card was a bit more things to do but we’ll worth it, thanks.

How super cute is this card??!!! Love it Darlene, you make it look so easy. Those Memento Lux inks look super juicy and I love how easily they cover the paper and the colors are so vibrant.
I love the way you made the front and back of the card and you are right, the clear embossing is all the decoration it needs.
Thank you so much for another great and fun video.
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Oh my goodness….what a cute card! The pop up is just an adorable way to present that cute owl! 🙂
I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the tip on making a template for dies you can’t see through to position. Who would have thunk of that? Well, Darlene, of course! That was so helpful!!!
I’ve been a bit remiss in following blogs the last couple of weeks. My son got married last weekend and I was very busy with pre wedding preps. We all survived, though and it was a great weekend! Now I hope to get back to some crafting myself….and it’s fun and inspirational for me to see what you’ve been up to! Happy Crafting!
