UPDATE: I forgot to tell you about the cute stamp I used on the back of the card. It is from a site called Cat’s Life Press.
Happy Day-Before-Thanksgiving!
Last week, I was in line at my grocery store and they had these cute cards where something gets pulled out of a pocket as you open the card. They were pretty elaborate… for example, you open the card and Santa comes out of a chimney. Another one was shaped like a purse – you open it and a gift card slides out. I thought they were so cool! I wanted to go home and try it out, and of course, this is a job for the owl punch. Seriously, I need a new punch that is as cute as this one because I’m sure these owls are getting a little old. Any suggestions?
A friend of mine just got a new job – he’s a big-wig now, so it called for a major card.
Now, this card is way less sophisticated than the ones at the store, but it’s still the same effect. And I’m not going to lie to you. It did not take me anywhere close to 8 minutes to make this card!! But, a lot of the time was just spent figuring out how to make it work. I added a lot of detail, like the wings on the owls and the squirrel on the front – which also added to the total time. But oh well, it was so fun to make!
Don’t you love getting a card with your name on it? Well, actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever gotten one with my name on it, but how cool would that be, lol??
One more thing – Stampin’ Up! is having their big annual holiday sale… products are 20-60% off!! And don’t forget that 20% of your purchase is donated to Foster Kids Charity.
Okay, well two more things… I know that I tend to ask for a lot of crafting stuff for Christmas! In fact, that’s about 99% of what I ask for!! And, of course, Copics are top of my list because they are the expensive and I hate buying them for myself. I discovered that Dick Blick has a wishlist functionality – you just put all the colors you want in a wishlist and voila – ready for sending off to the person who is going to make you very happy this year. Oh my I am speechless!!! This is so beautiful!! A few months back i picked up some owl kraft wrapping sheets from World Market. It matches the owl punch, as if they were made as a set. It makes a great combo when wrapping a gift. As for using the owl punch, at least your getting your money out of it!! :))) I have stuff on my shelve that I’ve never even used yet. I hope you guys have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
Rachael

– how did you get the oval cut on the inside of the card?

@Julia – I used a Provo Craft Coluzzle. The company stopped making it, but you may be able to find a coluzzle on eBay.

Oh WOW Darelene! This card is awesome! I love you pop up cards. I actually made something like this, but then instead of the small slider tab, I used a big one like the card size. But this is so more fun! So, I’m definitely gonna make a card like this, for a child of course. And I also love to use the name on my card, especially for new born and birthaday cards. The reaction from the recipients when I use their name is so fun. Thanks so much for this great video!

Awesome card! Everything you do is brilliant and inspiring. Thank you for sharing where you got the stamp that’s on the back of your card; I had their site bookmarked a long time ago, then somehow it got deleted and could not remember the company name. Now I can finally buy some. Happy Thanksgiving!

Pamela
Darlene, love the card so much! 🙂 I keep debating about buying that punch, but I think this card does it for me, it’s totally on my Christmas list! 🙂 Your creations are FABULOUS!
Just one question… is the alphabet stamp set you used for David’s name an SU one? I’ve been looking for one about that size.
Thanks!
Darlene DeVries
@Pamela: Yes, the alphabet is by Stampin’ Up! and called Rough Type. It was in a mini catalog in the last couple of years. You may be able to buy it on eBay. Good luck!
Marion
