Hi All,
A few weeks ago, one of my YouTube subscribers asked me to do a tutorial on a flip card. I actually created an extra fold in my version of a flip card to make it more interesting. I also found out that Sizzix has a flip-it die that will do all the cutting and scoring for you (not my version – the standard “flip-it” version). That’s very convenient, but then you’re limited to whatever shape you purchased. With the technique I use in this video, you can make it with any thin die… which means any Spellbinders die. Cool!
I figured it was time to bring out my owl punch – it’s been awhile! CLICK HERE to see other cards I have created with this punch. It’s just so darn cute.
Enjoy the video and have a great week!

@Holly – Stampin’ Up! doesn’t let demonstrators sell internationally, so you’ll have to find someone in your area. Or, if you know someone on a military base near you, I can have it shipped there.

How interesting this was your subject today. I was up at 2:30 this morning trying to figure this exact card out! I saw the Sizzix die at Hobby Lobby yesterday, but I didn’t want to pay $30.00 for it. So thanks for the video. I love it! Ciao db:)

Cheryl Powers
this was really cool, especially because i’m crazy for all birds and owls, and have those punches – I thought the design was awesome, but had difficult time with the speed of your video following the instructions. i didn’t find any pdf file – gonna look on splitcoast to see if there are any there. thanks for your design/creation. very cute.
Carolyn
Love, Love, Love this card, trying to figure out the dies you used, I know they are labels 16 but which one you started with, it doesn’t look like the largest. If you could let me know I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks
Carolyn
Darlene DeVries
Carolyn, I started with the second largest and used three in a row. Hope this helps!
Karan
Darlene,
Thank you for your video! I tried, unsuccessfully, to make a similar card. Your instructions were clear, and much more easy. The alignment of the dies went smoother the way that you showed. Great job, as usual!
Brenda
Love, love, love this! And my owl punch has _finally_ been ordered and is en route so I’ll be able to try this soon. Thanks for sharing!
Maria Williams
Awesome cute card! I love making cards that “move” and this one will now be a permanent part of my idea collection. I own a Cricut but have bought several Spellbinders dies and punches lately and have had a lot of fun with them. Now I have to have this set of dies. Thank you so, so much for sharing!
Karen
Darlene love this card made a little version of it you explained so well going to try this technique again. Thanks for your wonderful video. Karen
Rachel Woollard

Inge bekaert
Hello,
Thaks fot this tutorial : fun, clearly explained,…
I think i’ m going to try this out tomorrow!
Greetings from belgium
Kate
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I love the flip cards, but just could not justify the expense of buying one (or all!) of the dies needed. I would much prefer using the Spellbinders I already have. I look forward to trying this method.
Brenda
WAY cool! Thanks so much for sharing! Your tutorial looks great and the card is as creative and cute as can be. Inspiring!
Mary
I attempted this card, and it didn’t want to work for me, so I changed it a little. I linked my blog to the youtube video http://pastedpictures.blogspot.ca/2012/11/experimenting-with-flip-it-cards.html
Sheila Hinkel
I am in awe of this video on making a flip it card! I have purchased all the Sizzix flip it dies and love ’em all, but this opens up a whole new world of possibilities! Can’t wait to get home and get started. Love the extra cut and the additional framework idea! The owls are adorable! I’m finding that a very heavy cardstock works best on making these cards as regular stock is not heavy enough. Shirt boxes work well. I make one cut of paper and one of box stock and glue them together, but your stamping makes more sense. Let the Christmas-Card-Making begin!! You are quite an artist – thank you!
Anita Freeman
Wow – I’m impressed. This is such a cute card!
Ruth @ AtNumber 29
This card is so cool. Will definately be trying the flip it technique!
janet dycus
I love your card but the measurements are confusing me could you tell me the measurements thank you
Rachel Brooks
I am soooooooooooooooooo happy to have found your site via Splitcoast stampers! LOVE owls, and LOVE your cards using the owl punch. LOVE your tutorial videos which are well done, clear and FAST. I get tired of watching someone do every step in real time. I feel I’ve found a real treasure, and I know many who feel as you do about SU”‘s rule on only SU products.
Jo Cavanagh
Wow! This card is gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing how you made it. I’ve never seen a flip card before, and I don’t think I’ll ever see one as cute as this!
Melinda Nevis
Help! I. Cannot fOld it right, white side oF frame doesn’t show after folding. Love this card.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Melinda, check out the second and third photo on this post to make sure you have the folds going in the right direction. If you want to email me a picture of your project, maybe I can help further.
Deanna
I absolutely LOVE this card. Could you please share how you clean the ink foam applicator when changing color between scattered straw and warm lipstick? I’m new to stamping and am not familiar with technique, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I’d hate to mix the ink colors on the same sponge and risk ruining the card. Thank you for such a wonderful tutorial!
Darlene DeVries
Hi Deanna, I have 8 different ink foam applicators that I keep on a spinning rack. One for yellows, one for reds/pinks, one for blues, etc. I don’t mix them. If you don’t want to purchase so many applicators, you could switch out the sponge on the tip. Keep a separate sponge for each color family. Hope this helps!
Valerie
Thank you for the tutorial! Your tutorial is the best I’ve ever seen, well executed, explained, no dragging on with extra commentary; concise & to the point, very educational, great presentation and preparation! A delight to watch and learn.
Ines
I have searched for a tutorial like yours!
