Wednesday’s Card: Lawn Fawn Winter Owl

Winter Owl

Hi All!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!

When I first saw this stamp set, I knew I had to make a couple of special cards for my girls with it. Instead of a wintery scene, I decided to keep it really clean and clear. No snow! Just clear blue skies with lots of stars. 🙂

For the owl I used one of my favorite Copic marker combinations: E31, E34, and E39. For more of my favorites, see this sample I created.

By the way, Simon Says Stamp has a coupon today for $5 off your order, plus receive a free die. Use FACEBOOK5 at checkout!

Copic colors used: scarf (RV13, R29, R39); owl body (E31, E34, E39); owl eyes and belly (E30, E31); owl beak (YR12); berries and outline (R29)

so cute! I love that little own stamp set 🙂 where do you get your inspiration from? I would’ve never thought to use stars in the background for Christmas and it looks great!!!

Hi Carrie, that’s a hard question. I usually start by picking a stamp set in my head. Sometimes I already have an idea, but many times I will look at magazines and other blogging sites looking for something that inspires me – maybe the colors or the layout or the technique. I go to my craft room and then I usually end up with something completely different, lol!! I think that’s the best I can articulate it. 🙂

Cute card! I have this stamp set so I’m going to try it out now. I love the outline you did with the Copic Marker. Looks matted. I would have never thought to do that. Thanks for sharing!!

    Hi Darlene,

Loved your owl card and would like to find the Hero Arts Christmas Owl stamp set with the branch you used but it must not be in circulation now. Also, I noticed your large background stamp was on an acrylic block. Will you please tell me where I can purchase a block large enough for the Hero Arts background stamps? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Super cute little Christmas Owl and I love that starry background! it’s always so fantastic to see you coloring with Copics, you really make it look so darn easy. I also (sometimes) cut out some stamps to be able to use them like you did, I’m glad I’m not the only one, LOL.
Thank you for another delightful video Darlene.

I love your owl cards Darlene. You surprised me again, because when I looked at the card to start with before I watched the video, I thought the star background was design paper. I should have known better, of course you would make your own! Thanks once again for sharing your creations and inspiration with us!

    Dear Santa,

May I go to Darlene’s house for Copic coloring lessons? I’ve been a very good girl…really! 😀

    Thank you,

Great card!! Just a note that stampin up markers can be refilled using the regular reinkers used to reink the ink pads. Don’t throw your markers away. There are videos on youtube showing the how to’s… 🙂
