Hi All,
I had a VERY hard time coming up with a new card this week. I thought for sure that all my ideas had just run out. So, I decided to try shopping!! I went to a small stamping store about 15 miles from my house. I bought a few stamp sets, but what I was really excited about was these gelatos. I’ve seen other people use them, but I just never got around to trying them. They are pretty interesting – they are the consistency of lipstick and remind me a lot of oil pastels. However, they are water soluble, so if you get your hands messy, it literally comes right off with water.
I saw a lot of people on YouTube using them with water. But, when I did that, it seemed like the colors weren’t as bright. So, at least for my first time, I used them dry. Don’t you love the vibrancy of the color?
I also did something else I haven’t done before with the clear embossing. You know how you can do emboss resist on white paper? Well, I decided that I didn’t want my background to be so incredibly white that it was distracting to my flowers, so I inked the paper first, then embossed, then inked again. That way, the background colors were preserved under the embossing in a slightly lighter shade. Does this make sense?
Oh, and I dyed my string again with a Stampin’ Up! marker and some water. Who has green string lying around? It’s so nice to have these options!
Anyway, it was very refreshing to do a little shopping. I’ve never used that as a creative-block-remover before, so I’ll have to use this excuse again, lol!!
Have a great week!

Oh my goodness, this is so cool! You’re a genius with techniques, I just love the idea of laying a soft background before doing emboss resist. Also I have gelatos and haven’t used them…need to get busy!
Thanks too for letting us know about the punch being on clearance. I’ve just grabbed that, along with some others on sale. I’ve been wanting these punches for a while and couldn’t justify the expense. Woot!
I don’t think you’ll run out of ideas – if your mojo goes away for awhile, don’t worry, it’ll come back. You did the right thing – you looked for inspiration. I look forward to your weekly videos very much!
Blessings, Mary

You used a variety of techniques that are new to me-coloring the background before adding the clear embossing, Gelatos I have never used at all, and I did not know that the liquid applique comes in colors! I learned a lot today! Thanks again. 🙂

Wow Darlene…love your colourful card. You have created such a happy and spring like scene. Great idea to clear emboss the grass beforehand- it created a wonderful subtle effect. Simply gorgeous!

I have never heard of Gelatos so will have to go out looking here in Australia for them. It made it look easy for colouring the images. Love the idea of the light background inking too.

This is a gorgeous card Darlene. Shopping is a good way to break a creative block. I also like to blog hop and I get lots of inspiration this way too. I haven’t tried Gelatos yet, but I love the vibrancy of colour that you got on your card. The resist on top of the ink and then inking over the top again is a great idea. I can’t wait to try it myself.
