Wednesday’s Card: Frame of Flowers

Frame of Flowers

Hi All!

I went through a period of obsessive-compulsive-paper-flower-buying about 18 months ago. I love paper flowers, but I feel like I hardly ever use them! Well, I got out a bunch of my flower bags and selected some. The first few that came out of the bag were turquoise and orange. I thought, “Why not?”.

The frame is cut out using Spellbinders Labels and then dry embossed with a Tim Holtz brick pattern. When I first created the card, I used orange stripes on the background. Didn’t work. Then I tried a turquoise polka dot that I stamped off first. The difference between that and the orange was amazing. Sometimes you just have to try out a couple of options to see what looks best! The dots stamp is actually a new one from Stampin’ Up! this year – they are “distressed dots”, so they don’t stamp completely solid – I like it a lot!!

Anyway, if you have a bunch of flowers laying around, try it out! Note: The flowers in my supply list below aren’t the exact flowers I used in this card.

Enjoy and have a great week!

what a lovely idea for using paper flowers. I, too, have a rather large stash of paper flowers, but have never used them. This card demo has given me some good ideas as to how to incorporate them into my crafts. Thanks! Holly M.

Congratulations on your choice of charity! Evidently Michelle Armour is an amazing woman for starting this charity for kids. You are amazing as well for deciding to donate to such a wothy cause! 🙂

I LOVE today’s card and there is that Spellbinder Label I inquired about not to long ago. I also love Two Peas in a Bucket! I’ll check there again to see if they have that label before buying it else where. From now on when I purchase from Two Peas, I’ll make sure to do it from your link. I’ll also check out Blink before buying Copics from Hobby Lobby. 🙂

Have a Wonderful Wednesday Darlene and thanks for yet another great card to inspire the rest of us out here!

    Hi Darlene,

Love the card! What an inventive idea to use up lots of the flowers. I’ll have to give it a whirl myself. I had a quick question for you regarding paper. I noticed in your items listed, that you used both Neenah white cardstock as well as Whisper White from SU! I’ve been trying to figure out the best cardstock to get that is good for using Copic markers, stamping and card bases. There are so many opinions out there between Neenah, GinaK, SU, PTI, etc that I’m not sure which to pick. I need to stock up on some more white cardstock and don’t know which way to go. Your cards are always so amazing and you use all sorts of mediums on them, I figured you would be the best person to ask. Which paper do you recommend?

What a great idea for using your paper flowers. I seem to collect them and never think to use them when I make a card. This card looks fantastic and I love the fact that you have experimented and told us about the first attempt. I always look at cards on peoples blogs and think how talented and amazing they are, not always realizing that they go through the same steps as me. I often agonize over what colour to use, which design paper, what embellishment, etc. Thank you for your honest, down to earth approach and for constantly inspiring me to try something new or different!

    Hi Darlene
I’m so happy I found your blog website. I have to say you are one very talented artist ! I love your video’s, they are all so very detailed and easy to follow and learn with, thank you for giving your time and of yourself to the world to learn from, this is a very kind thing to do.
I like how you handle the situation with Stampin Up, and manage to get around the issue, and still keep moving forward. I too, am against any company making it that you cannot use anything else but there products.
I also like that you are giving back to something you feel matters in your heart. I have always like giving back to those causes that are right here in our country and or states, and of cause what matters in our hearts! … kids are always a great subject to fight for ! I applause you !
Keep the video’s coming of the beautiful cards you make, thank you.
    Respectfully, Lillian

Love this cute card! What a clever way to use paper flowers! I love that you say “just a simple card” and yet, it is just so clever, and lovely. Now, I am wondering what idea will you think of next? Buttons? Ribbon? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to see…LOL A beautiful card!! I love the embossing folder on the frame. I nearly forget to use mine, and I do have quite a few. This is like a card class for me. I come here, watch a bunch of videos, your ideas inspire some ideas of my own…then MY mojo starts revving up…TFS!!!! LOL
