Good morning!
Thanks to everyone who left a comment about my voice-over last week. It looks like 99% of the responses were positive, so I’m going to try and keep going with it. It was so nice to hear from all of you. 🙂
I went back to distress inks this week. I really like the way they react with water. I created the water stains by just flicking water onto the card base. Be careful though – not too much! I accidentally threw a big puddle of water on the card the first time around and had to start over!!
I switched to Neenah Solar White cardstock for distressing and copic coloring. I’ve been really happy with the results. It absorbs distress inks really well and the copics don’t bleed hardly at all.
Are you getting sick of seeing this butterfly? I use this stamp so much!! it’s just the perfect size with the perfect lines in it. Not too whimsical, not too detailed. Just a simple butterfly that fits with pretty much every card!!
I also used, once again, the Thank You Kindly stamp set from Stampin’ Up! I love, love this set – so clear and simple. And every size and font of thank you I seem to need.
Enjoy the video and have a great week!!

I have a bunch of the distress and other Ranger stuff and have never had instruction on how to use it. This tutorial was GREAT! Loved the card too.

Darlene, Keep up the voice over! Always love technique demos featuring distress inks. I haven’t plunged into Copics yet–just not sure where to start.

Thanks so much for your sharing. I’ve checked your site often and love your work.
Also, thanks for the vellum suggestion — really a time saver — makes sense for repetitive stamping.

That’s such a beautiful card Darlene! I really love that butterfly, I recently purchased it! Great tip about stamping your sentiments on vellum and just keeping it together with those stamps! Thanks for the inspiration!

Great video,love your voice.
This is one of my fave techniques. Thanks for the tip on how to use the black enamel accent!
Dottie
Did I hear Darlene correctly, did she say she rubbed the ink over the paper? Or does she dot/blot it all over the paper? Does she also rub the paper with the ink when she puts the edging on or again dot/blot? I am new to card making and am trying to understand how projects are made 🙂 Thanks
Darlene DeVries
@Dottie: It’s all about keeping the applicator down – I don’t lift it up at all. I just rub it in little circles on the paper until I get the coverage I want. I will slow it down a little bit next time so that you can see it better. 🙂
Debbie
Gorgeous bright card! Love your color-combo and still loving the butterfly, so don’t worry…you can keep using it over and over again, without boring me 😉
Great video too! Very easy to see what and how you are doing it, the voice over really helps with that (and you have a very lovely voice, that helps too hahaha)!

Again Darlene it’s been a pleasure watching your instructional video – beautiful cards. Hope the recipients love them as much as we all love watching you make them. The butterfly is just lovely – am not sick of seeing it at all!! The coluzzle seems to have sold out – do you think they will come back in supply any time soon?
Claudia
Thanks for the tip of using vellum. I love your work Darlene..you inspire me..

Great video–I have all these color inks so looking forward to using them. I’m a newbie at card making but find it very satisfying. Do you use gloss or matte paper when you apply ink in this manner with the water? Keep up the good work.
Darlene DeVries
@Joan: I use matte paper. I’ve never tried with glossy paper, but I would think the water would be resisted and have to evaporate before you could see the water stains.
Catherine
Another great video Darlene and I love the addition of the voice over! The stampamajig/vellum trick is such a great idea! I’ve started making one for all of my stamp sets.
