Wednesday’s Card: Cozy Christmas on a Hill

Ellen Hutson Holiday

Ellen Hutson Holiday

Hi All!

Hope you enjoyed the blog hop over the weekend. If you missed it, check out my post. I showed 4 projects and 2 videos. I really, really dislike showing a card without a video. I can’t explain why. I know most of the time when I see other people’s cards I think to myself, “oh, that’s nice”, then I’m off to the next thing. BUT, if I see a video on how to do it, I feel much more inspired.

Anyway, I just didn’t have the time to post a video for all the projects, so I figured I would prepare one of them for today’s card.

On a personal note, I wanted to share something kind of funny. I went upstairs to tuck my 9-year-old into bed and she was working on this:

Color Chart by Courtney

Yes, it’s a color palette of all her crayons. Just so touching on many levels. My little mini-me. 🙂

Enjoy the video and have a great week!

Adorable little scene. Now I’m really glad I got this stamp & die set. Clever way you made your street…makes those houses POP! Also, think you’ve created a clone of you based on your daughter’s color chart. Cute.

I agree with you. I am much more inspired by a video than by just seeing a card. Your videos always inspire me…your calm voice, your clear directions, and your enthusiasm for creating. Thank you.

I agree, I love watching a video so much more than just reading the instructions. Yours are wonderful and I love this card. I have that background stamp and had forgotten all about it, thanks for the reminder and thanks for sharing your talent.

I went straight to the post button before I got to say… I love the picture of your daughters color pallet. It just goes to show they pick up a lot from us.. Great JOB

Thanks for another great video Darlene. This card portrays the very cosy feeling of Christmas but does it without the usual (boring) red and green. I applaud your use of real color. Your daughter’s color palette is a work of art in itself!

I have to tell you. Seeing your daughter’s chart made me think of it. My granddaughter found your videos that I watch all of the time on my Ipad. I thought she was watching one of the cartoons she usually watches but I think your videos were on there and she got really interested. She had been watching them for quite awhile when I noticed. She asked for more of them and when she sees me on Facebook looking at them she sits with me and watches them. Finally one afternoon she started stamping and watercoloring and I noticed she was talking about what she was doing, naming the colors and the products she was using. She just turned 6. I was amazed. I videotaped her and I swear she sounded just like you. So cute. I wish I knew how to upload the video for you but haven’t learned how to do that yet. (It is on my iphone) Thank you for being such an inspiration to everyone.

That’s so sweet of your daughter. I was doing ink swatches on paper and my daughter decided she wanted to do her own ink swatches with my inks. They are just so cute sometimes!!

Well Darlene, your daughters have the best teacher, how very sweet that your little girl copied what she sees her mama doing, what a beautiful tribute from her to you.
This card is just amazing, a lot of little details make it so unique and wonderful. Your videos are an amazing teaching tool Darlene, thank you so much for sharing this card and your little girl’s Crayon Color Chart.

One of the most interesting and striking Christmas cards I’ve seen so far this year! You put so many processes into creating a seemingly CAS card but the result is stunning! Oh, I love you sharing that note about your daughter – yes, you have modelled well for her! Bless!

Darlene, I love this card. And I love your videos. Look forward to them every week. I find that watching card videos is very soothing and always appreciate it when a card make goes to the work of showing us the entire process. Yours are my favorite! And your daughter’s color chart is amazing. What a thinker! Have a good rest of the week and thanks for your inspiration.

Very cute card! LOVE the neon-ish colored houses on the hill and the snowy bkgrd. I am so grateful for your videos. Not only do they inspire and teach me but it’s also nice to pick up tips to do what I do better. Giving you “extra” thanks for making the videos. 😀

Thank you again, Darlene for such a cute idea for a Christmas card. I love how you layered the houses on this card. Can’t wait for next week’s project.
