Hi All,
I’m calling this a chalkboard because it kind of looks like one to me, but maybe not? I don’t know. 🙂
The technique is pretty easy, and the good news is that you can be really sloppy with your distress ink and not worry about blocks and lines, lol!!
I decided to leave off the sentiment for now. Maybe I’ll add one later. If I do, I’ll probably put it in the lower right corner. Or maybe I’ll just leave it blank – I kind of like it nice and clean.
So my Ellen Hutson guest post is going to be this Monday!! I’m really excited about it. I’m using gelatos and I’ll have a video too! The best part – GIVEAWAY!! Ellen Hutson is a really sweet, generous person. You’ll want to come back and enter.
Until then, have a great weekend. 🙂
Darlene

SO beautiful, and OMG I cannot wait to try that faux chalkboard technique! I think I just might go take my cup of coffee and head to my crafting studio RIGHT NOW to try it out! Thanks for sharing (as always)!!!!
Daria Z.
I love your version of the chalkboard technique – somehow the green makes it more athentic!

Love the card and will be trying your technique soon. I have the green distress ink but do not have the black.
I do have many other black inks of course. Is the distress ink best for this chalkboard technique or would another black dye ink work?
Thanks for letting me know. I subscribe to your blog so see your great ideas in my email mailbox:)

Hi Karen, I think it should work with any water-based ink. Let me know how it goes!

This is beautiful Darlene~ and I always appreciate your step by step instructions!
Question: How is it possible that you don’t seem to get black ink ALL over your fingers/nails like I always do?! :o)
Thanks for inspiring!!
Darlene DeVries
Heather, my nails were black and I had to go out!! I guess you couldn’t see it in the video, but it’s definitely there. 🙂

Gorgeous….love the coloring and the background. Lovely.

This is so very pretty …. love your chalkboard background and the Copic colored butterfly so lovely. Just love how this card turned out!

Love how you did the chalkboard BG. I want to try it. You always come up with such interesting techniques, Darlene.

I so love this technique and the only thing that’s stopping me from trying it is my fear of messing it up. This video is very informative and, as always, your step by step instructions are clear and easy to follow. I’m sure I will need to practice a lot, just like with the sponging but it’s all so very worth it.
Thanks Darlene for always inspiring and always giving us options to explore new techniques and ideas.
XO from Maria.

Love this card and layout is great. Can’t wait to get back to carding, will try this layout for sure. Your layouts are always great, do you have a place you get sketches and/or do create all of them yourself? Your chalkboard technique is different from what I have seen others do, love the look.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Carol, I’ve only used a sketch once, which I posted with my card maybe a few months ago. I just make them up, which is probably why each card takes me so long!!

Wow, this card is beautiful. I watch your videos all the time and I love how and what you do in each and every one of them! I just joined Stamin Up so I too could enjoy all they have to offer. I love making cards and can’t wait each day to see what I can create. Thank you so much for sharing all of your ideas with us!
Your style of teaching and technique is awesome also. It is so easy to follow and learn how to do something.

I have been buying new items up as soon as I see your card and video. I just love your style and how you explain each step. I have learned so much and I love this hobbie. I love all your cards this one included. Thanks for being so dedicated. I hope you continue for a long time. I look forward to them every week. You’ve become a welcome friend on my PC . Thanks Darlene

Love this card Darlene. I’ve seen a few cards made with this technique, but I love your technique (with this green tinge) the best – and again, your copic coloring is awesome with some more great hints on how to make images look so good. Looking forward to seeing what you created over at Ellen Hutson – have ordered quite a few products from her and they’ve always been so prompt with shipping to me in Australia.
Keep up the great work!!

Simply gorgeous, Darlene!

OOPS! I think I commented in the wrong place, when I thought I was commenting on this card! Oh dear, my lack of computer skills is showing, again! Love the “chalkboard” effect that you used. Really like the hint of green under the black. Love the butterfly, of course, but that split negative look of the piece that you attached it to is genious! You are amazing. Can’t wait until the Ellen Hutson thing. Where will I look for that? (Ahem, okay, I admit I am not a techie, wish I was, but just not.) Go “WOW” them over there, Darlene, as I know you will!! TFS!!!
Darlene DeVries
Thank you for your sweet comment Anna! Check back here on Monday for the Ellen Hutson post!

Your butterfly is just the touch of spring that this sick-of-snow central Wisconsinite needed ~ beautiful card!

I loved this card, Darlene. I used the embossing technique on a special card I’m working on just now and it’s come up beautifully. Thanks so much for the demo.
