Wednesday’s Card: Birthday Fishes

Birthday Fishes

Hi All!

Isn’t this stamp so darn cute? It’s Birthday Buddies by Paper Smooches. When I create a card for the blog, I always show it to my kids first, then I do a video to create a second one. Well, I was showing this card to Courtney, my 8 year old, and she said, “Oh Mommy, it’s so cute! I love their party hats!”. I quickly flipped it around so I could see it. Party hats? I colored that part blue like the fish. I said, “Oh, those are fins, but oh my gosh Courtney, you are brilliant! I can put party hats on them! Let’s see if the stamp set came with one.” So, we go over to see the stamp set and we’re both looking at it. She says, “Mommy, they are all wearing party hats.” Me: “As I said before Courtney, you’re brilliant! Let’s color them like party hats.” I don’t know how I missed that, lol!

Anyway, have a wonderful week. I’ll be back Friday for another Fun Friday Collabo with Jill Foster. See you then!

Super cute card, those fishies look adorable. I love how you made that dotted line around the cut out circle, you have such a steady hand, the same for the lines, it’s always amazing to watch you do that.
    Great job, Darlene!!

OMG, these fish are so stinkin’ cute, I can’t stand it!! LOL Oh, Darlene, how sweet is that story? First of all, I love that you share each card with your kids before making the video. How nice to include them in your hobby. Then, to have your daughter tell YOU about the party hats, was a hoot! “out of the mouth of babes”, right? Made me chuckle! It brings back some cute similar stories of my own children when they were kids. Thanks for that memory. LOL I love your coloring and your card layout ideas! What inspiration. Of course I love your videos, and BTW…sorry for my little “what no video?” with your last card posting….LOL I was joking, but sort of……….cuz, plain and simple, I LOVE your videos!!! LOL I must not be greedy, I always have Wednesday”s video to look forward to….LOL Seriously, thanks for sharing your lovely talent!!

Awwwwww! This is so adorable! And kudos to Courtney for coming up with the party hat idea!!! I really love how you did the ‘water’ and the hand drawn black border works soooo well with that sentiment font!

Love the card – those fish are so cute. Looks like your daughter has your ‘clever crafting’ genes. I’ve also tried to do the copic coloring using the darkest color first and it didn’t work for me at all – but your fish still looks great.
Looking forward to see what you create on Friday.

What an adorable card. Enjoyed the back story as well. I’m always so amazed at the neatness of your pen stitching (I make a mess even when following the emboss line.) Your hand is so steady when you draw your border line. TFS

    Hi Darlene,
I’ve been viewing your videos on cards since I found you and love all of your work and the little hints you give us along the way. For some reason I can’t get the “Little Fishes” video link to work no matter what I try? Are you having problems with it or what do you suggest?
    Thanks, Kathy
