Today is Card #3! In this video series, I am using the Cloudy Skies stamp set in four unique ways. You can still purchase the set and get $5 off your order when you use the code REFRESH at checkout.
I tried to be a little more out-of-the-box with my use of the stamp set today. So, I used one of the clouds (you could use any of them for this technique) as a border stamp. Here is the card:
Before I started, I did a quick test of my black inks to determine which one was the best for full coverage of this solid stamp. I wanted to use a dye ink because dye dries faster and there would be less chance of ink smudging, which I am prone to do in even minimal applications. Here are the results of the test (click to zoom in):
It’s a little hard to tell from the photo, but Hero Arts and Simon Says Stamp were the best, with the SSS just a tad bit better. Enjoy and I’ll see you next Friday for the final installment! 🙂

Clever idea to use the cloud stamp as a border and good tip about black inks. I’ve never used black dye ink by Hero Arts or SSS. I would’ve gone for Versafine Onyx Black pigment ink too. So that really is good to know. Thanks, Darlene! As for the Scotch foam tape, it is great if you get down correctly the first time but you cannot pull it up if you don’t. Thought I’d mention this to anyone else who might need a bit of wiggle room like I do. PS: My Cloudy Skies stamp set finally arrived 2 days ago. So I’m now ready to go.

Thanks for this series, Darlene! I love how creative you are and seeing what ideas you come up with. Will you do another series like this? Maybe make it a regular thing? (hint, hint).
Darlene DeVries
I have another one up my sleeve. 🙂

So clever. Never in a million years would I have come up with the idea to use the cloud as border stamp. Now, off to look at my collection to see what might make a good border.

Awesome series and card. I would never have thought to use the cloud stamp as a border.

Such a clever idea to use the cloud as a border. I love the way it turned out and I so love those cute cows. Such a cute, cute, cute card. Hugs, Brenda

I will also chime in to say what a clever idea to use this cloud as a border. I never would have thought of it and now I want to look at other stamps to see if they could work in this way. I love seeing the different black inks. I may just need to get a SSS black ink pad.

Love your card. I really want that MFT herd stamp set. May have to give that to myself for a birthday gift. I’ve been eyeing it for awhile. Could you do a series with that stamp set?!!!
Darlene DeVries
After I came up with the idea for the series, I wanted to do it with this set, but since I had already used it, I wanted to start with something new. I’ve already done three cards with it. You can search “whole herd” in the search box to display all of them, in case you missed one. It really is a great set!

Thanks for letting me know u

Love this card. Using the cloud stamp as a border is amazing and The Whole Herd stampset is one of my favourite sets. Those cows are gorgeous and the review on the blacks inks was very interesting. Thanks Darlene

Cowabunga!!! I love this card!

The black dye ink results were a surprise because I believed Versifine gave the best imprint. Not so. Good to know. Also using the cloud stamp for the border was genius. I enjoy your series’ and comparisons. Please keep up the good work.

To quote my kids, “mind blown!” I would never have thought about using the clouds in that way! It looks amazing, like those sweet cows were meant to go perfectly with that border stamp.
