Welcome to the second card in my series! Today I’m using Chalkola markers to color my Spring Flowers. These markers are fantastic for coloring onto dark cardstock. I did a lengthier introduction to them on this card, if you are interested in more detail. Here is the card:
Sometimes I find myself struggling with a background for flowers. You want “something” in the background but that “something” shouldn’t be distracting. At the same time, you want to highlight your flowers. I found a happy medium with the striped frame that I drew. It was something that provided a little “extra” without distraction. I drew it with my 03 marker from the Micron pack of three.
It’s not too late to play along! Simon Says Stamp is offering $5 off your order when you purchase the set – use code darlene at checkout.
I hope you are enjoying the series. Two more cards left, which I will bring you over the next two Fridays.
On a side note, scrapbook.com is having 15-55% off all stamping supplies, now through Sunday, January 15th. You could get lost for hours on that site – beware!
Enjoy the video!

I couldn’t believe that my SSS Spring Flowers stamp set arrived today at my home in Australia and only took 1 week from ordering it online to receiving it. This is the fastest I’ve ever received an order from SSS. So I was thrilled. I also am delighted you resurrected the liquid chalk markers again. I loved your other card where you used them and made a similar card that turned out very well. Because the Chalkola markers do not seem to be available in Australia, I bought a set of Brazon Liquid Chalk Markers with 3mm Bullet tips that work perfectly well. In fact with the smaller bullet tip, it is very easy to colour with them. For those in Australia following this series, Google to find where you can buy these liquid chalk markers and order them online as I did. They are inexpensive and good quality, I love this series so much, Darlene, and am so glad you selected this stamp set to feature.

This is so eye catching. I usually never think to stamp on black. I guess my New Years resolution would to be to step out of the craft box!

I just ordered the stamp set. I believe I’ll get a lot of use out of it. I’m still thinking about the markers though. They really are pretty on black card stock.

This card is just stunning Darlene! I love those markers, they are so pretty on the black paper. Hugs, Brenda

Darlene, this card is so pretty, I can’t wait to try it with my Chalkola markers!

I bought the ChalkOla Markers when you did your other video on it. Then I forgot about them so I am so happy you did this one. I tried it with the Penny Black Poppy Time stamp and I used the red. It is beautiful. My frame isn’t as good as yours. My freehand leaves a lot to be desired but I love the final product. Thanks for bringing this back. I am going to go back and see which one prompted me to buy the markers and try that.

How pretty Darlene! I won a set of these at one of those expos and when I saw the thick tip, I thought “what the heck am I going to use these for?” and now I know! Thanks for the ideas, tips and tricks!

I don’t have these markers, but thinking about what I do have to do this on black cardstock. I’m not sure about the blending though. I love how your border looks. I’ll have to try it. Just ordered HE white embossing powder. This year I’m cutting back and using what I already have.
Thank God I already have this stamp and die set!
Looking forward to next post in this series.
Thanks, Darlene!

I don’t have the Chalkola markers. What else works well on dark paper?
Darlene DeVries
Hi Alma. Colored pencils will work on dark paper, and Finetec watercolors look really pretty. You can check them out here and here.

Thanks. I have some pearl watercolor that I bought at a local dollar store. I will give it a try.

Beautiful, Darlene! I have my Chalkola markers in front of me and am going to practice your technique. I forgot all about having these markers so thank you for demonstrating them.

I love how this looks. It does look like chalk on a chalk board. Nice job and I really love this stamp.
