Underwater Masking

Hi All!

Today is the last day to get 20% off your Ellen Hutson purchase. Use code summersavings15 at checkout!

I used Paper Smooch’s Birthday Buddies with one of my favorite stamp sets, Best Fishes.

I used Lawn Fawn’s Scripty Sayings set for the water line. Simon Says Stamp and Mama Elephant have similar styles.

When I first saw the animal I used above the water, I completely blanked on what it was, so I just called it an otter. I recorded my voiceover and called it an otter. When I listened to the recording and heard myself say “otter”, it finally dawned on me that this is a beaver. I called Courtney over and asked her what kind of animal it was. She immediately said “It’s a beaver!”. I need to go back to grade school.

Anyway, enjoy my ink blending, Copic coloring, and water-staining. 🙂

Love the way you used this sentiment with water underneath. Thanks for sharing how you fix the Distress problem i.e., when the blender tool leaves marks. Also, for showing how you arrange your stamps on the paper then pick them up with your acrylic block! I always try placing them on the block first 🙁 Love these “ah hah” moments! Thanks Darlene.

Cute card Darlene, I love the beaver popping up from the wave. I never could blend with the rectangle blending tool, but do a better job with the round one. Not that I’m real good at that one either, but it seems to work better for me. lol Hugs, Brenda

Darlene, I cannot believe how well you fussy cut the mask for the greeting! I don’t know that I could ever do that well. 🙂 Love the colors you used. I do have one question. If you colored the fish with Copics, why did it matter if the water you flicked on went through the masks over the fish? Just curious. Thanks so much for the inspiration! ~ Andrea

Hi Andrea. I used Memento Ink on the fish, and I know that ink doesn’t do very well with water. It tends so spread and turn a little purple.

hahaha…I would have called it an otter too! So cute!!! funny because when you said beaver, then I could see it was a beaver but hey, he works absolutely great on this card and beavers love water so he fits in perfectly 🙂

    Thanks Darlene
How cute is this card . Just in time for me too
I was wanting someone to show me how to create underwater
With sponging needs heaps of practice to get the amount of colour just right
I am new to sponging especially to create a scene
i.e. Sand ,sea, horizon ,land in distance and sky
    Thanks again
I hang out for your tutorials

This is awesome! It uses a lit of techniques but in a simple way and using the scripty sentiments (which I just had to have a couple of months ago but then never used…) was very clever! Thanks for the inspiration Darlene!

So cute. I am going to use the water technique. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh Darlene, when you said you were going to fussy cut the sentiment I couldn’t believe it!!! that is some amazing fussy cutting, my dear, my goodness!!
The little fish really pop in that lovely blue water, and the otter looks so sweet just floating about.
Darling card, Darlene, thank you for sharing.

Hmmm…those Scripty Saying make perfect waves of water. Who woulda thunk it? Right…Darlene would have, of course!! hehe Love the card. Ya know it’s almost magical when you popped out those fish from behind the tape. Probably one of the funnest parts of cardmaking!! Thanks, Darlene!! =)

Oh my….using the scripty words for the water line was genius! This card is adorable! I may have to use that idea sometime! So cute! Thanks for sharing, Darlene!

So clever how you used the saying as a wave!!! I too love seeing you pull away the masked fish!!! great video!!!

Cute and clever! Love the wavy sentiment idea! I wonder if the bit you cut off was meant to be the beaver’s tail flicking up behind, rather than a hat? Just an idea!

  23. wrote on July 27th, 2015 at 7:03 pm

Nope! Ignore me, it’s a hat! I just looked at the rest of the images from the stamp set! Lol!
