Hi All,
I have created so many cards with this owl punch over the years – there is actually a Gallery category for it! I seriously hope Stampin’ Up! never retires it. I dread the day.
Here is the card opened:
I used Brown Sugar Sparkly Fluff for the owl’s belly. Ellen Hutson used to sell it, but the only place I could find it is HERE. Another option is to use just plain flock. You could also try mixing it with some glitter.
Here is a close-up of the flock:
And more bad new, unfortunately. When I was putting together the supply list, I noticed that the My Favorite Things Branch with Leaves is no longer available. I’m so sorry! Some other options that I think would work are Savy Stamps Branch and the branch in the Winter Sparrows die set. Or better yet… just cut your own branches! I scanned the die cuts so you could cut them out and use as a template. They are made to print on a 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of paper. Click here to download.
Enjoy the video!

You make some adorable owl cards. This is one of those punches I keep forgetting to get. But you’ve inspired me! Have you ever used Ranger embossing puff? I have only seen it a few places online and am not sure if it’s a new line or an old line. But it looks just like the Doodlebug flossing powder.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Connie. No, I’ve never used embossing puff by Ranger. I did a little search on it and it looks old and maybe not widely available anymore? I did see a few other puff-type products, although most seemed to come only in white.
Connie
Thanks Darlene. Must be an old Ranger product because I just saw it mentioned online in 2010! It apparently wasn’t popular. I’ll just stick with Doodlebug Designs that can be obtained in Australia too. I did notice a lot of different colours of flocking powder on Ebay and elsewhere through Google but they were specifically for nail manicures and I don’t suppose could be used on cards even though it looked liked the same stuff from the photos. If it is the same stuff, it is very inexpensive.
Connie
Oops – flocking powder NOT flossing powder!

Thanks for another owl punch card. I have really gotten a lot of use out of mine, thanks to you. The shading on the branches really makes all the difference. Nicely done!
Anita
Everything about this card is gorgeous, but the branches, are unbelievable! I love the realistic finish with the inks! I also bought this punch because of you and hardly ever use it… I need to get it out!

Oh Darlene, I’m so glad I bought this Owl Punch way back when you showed the very first card you made with it, I just fell in love with the adorableness of it. I hope they never retire this punch because it would be really sad the next generation of crafters miss out on getting it.
This card is so beautiful, so many amazing details went into it’s creation but you made it look easy and fun. I love the way you cut the circle, this is an excellent tip that could work with a lot of dies.
Thank you so much for sharing this video, I just love this card.
Maria.

LOVE the owl punch. LOVE the Sparkly Fluff for the owls’ tummies 🙂 I, too, am glad i bought the owl punch back when you first showed it. Keep up the awesomeness!
Barb H.
So glad you used the owl punch again! I have the punch and haven’t used it in a while. I try to use your card ideas as inspiration and not copy them exactly, but I may have to on this one. Too cute!
Caly
I love your owl cards, Darlene!
Andrea
This is so cute! I’m sure your husband will love it (or did love it, if you’ve given it to him already)! Your comment about your masking being so messy made me laugh. When we did some remodeling on the inside of our garage a few years ago, we discovered some odd things, like a stair stringer piece attached to the back wall, an old science project background turned wall panel…! My brother concluded that, when the previous owners had the garage built, they just told the builders to use whatever was left over from constructing the house! LOL Totally unrelated to card making, but still funny, I think! I’m sorely tempted to get that owl punch now. I love owls, but I wonder if my mom would kill me for getting another punch…? 🙂 ~ Andrea

I have severely missed your owl punch cards!! If you can’t find Sparkly Fluff, Martha Stewart sells a pack of flocking that has a variety of colors and it’s basically the same thing. I received my Botanicals bundle from SU while I was sick and have not had a chance to play around with it yet. Love what you did cutting that stitched circle off the card base — you are one clever crafty chick!! =) Thank you so much for this card, the owl punch doesn’t get used enough. hehe
