Hi All!
I’ve been wanting to do a card that is different than a standard A2. I’ve been feeling trapped inside the 4.25″ x 5.5″ box! However, I still wanted to be able to fit it into an A2 envelope, since I have a huge box of those. So, this is the card I came up with. I participated in one of Altenew’s product release blog hops, so I was able to pick a set for free. Shadow Play was the one I chose – I like stamp sets that are different and this one is so unique. I also used it with watercolor on THIS CARD.
Speaking of watercolor, Sunday is the last day to submit your entry to the May Challenge. I will choose a random winner on Monday, which is when I will also be posting the challenge for June. ALSO… Monday is the last day to enter the Peerless giveaway I am running on my DarleneDesign.com blog. Be sure to leave a comment on THIS POST to be eligible to win.
Next week is going to be busy! In addition to the new challenge, I’ll be going live with a new site feature (I’m really excited about this one!), we’ll have another member craft space feature, and I’ll be posting a new polling question.
Okay, now onto the video for today. Here are the measurments, in case you miss them in the video:
- Card base: 3.75″ x 10″, scored and folded at 5″.
- Sun: placed 1/2″ above and to the side of the card base.
Enjoy and have a great weekend!

How different! Love the shadows and how well you lined them up! I wouldn’t have thought about looking at what letter the birds were on in the shadow! Thanks for sharing!
lisam
I never thought to ask before. Where do you buy your envelopes ? for standard size cards.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Lisa. I get mine in bulk from paper-papers.com.

Love the shadow effect!

I love the shadow stamp too – didn’t know they made stamps with shadows! On the forum, I asked more detailed questions about the absorber. Any info would be great! Thanks!
carolecurto
I got the absorber and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! The best stamp cleaner I have. No fuzz!! Mine is yellow so it’s looking pretty nasty as the inks do dye it but it doesn’t effect the way it cleans. I just give it a rinse occasionally and it’s good to go. I keep it in a plastic container so it stays wet. Highly recommend!
I found the best price on Amazon. It’s quite large, so I cut it into several smaller pieces.

I love this stamp set, too. So unique. Love how you used it …glad you told us about the Wet Cement, I’ve been using grey for the shadows. Going to give it a try.

I love it!

You make it look so easy, but I know there was a lot of thinking and figuring out that went into it. It came out perfectly! Great card.

I looked at that stamp set, but hesitated on buying it because I could not get any ideas coming to my head on designing with it. Thank you for giving me an idea to work with, and i like your idea of not having to always make an A2 card.

I remember that other card you made with this other shadow stamp set, they really look beautiful. Love the setting sun going out of the card, awesome detail. Thank you for sharing.
I can’t wait for next months challenge and for your featured stamp space.
Hugs.

Love the way the sun is on your card. Such a neat design idea, and especially keeping it to a standard size in the end. Great colors, too! ~ Andrea

I love that stamp set and I love your card Darlene. It is very cool indeed, the smaller size, but having the sun overhang was a fabulous idea. I wish more stamp sets had shadow stamps with them, I think they are so neat. Hugs, Brenda

It’s cute, it is nice to get outside the box sometimes and with such a lovely outcome. It was nice to see that on a very dull day in Australia….lol

Such a neat card. I love how you cut the card smaller and then used the sun to fill in the extra space. I love this stamp set, it’s so unique with those shadows!! Thanks for sharing! =)

Very creative use of that stamp set. I love how you used your cricut mat.
