Hi All,
I used a stencil similar to how I used it on last Monday’s card, but this time with a different effect – two different colors on white to add dimension.
I colored the elephants with Copic Markers after first stamping off twice with my image. By doing so, I got a faded gray outline that I could highlight with my C6 marker wherever I wanted a heavy shadow to be.
I used my confetti hearts punch to create the hearts going up. I love how this punch has so many different sized small pieces.
Not sure if you’ve heard the news, but yesterday Stampin’ Up! discontinued their Blendabilities line. There was a manufacturing defect (a microscopic hole in the tip of the marker) that accelerated the evaporation of the ink. Their reject rate from bad quality markers was 30-40%, so they decided to stop production. If you have ordered Blendabilities and they are on backorder, Stampin’ Up! is going to contact you about a refund. If you got the Blendabilities as a Sale-a-bration item and have not received it, you will be contacted about picking another item. If you think you have defective markers, you can call Stampin’ Up! – see their contact page for phone numbers. Kind of disappointing. And embarrassing for them I would say. I’m sure there are a lot of angry demonstrators who invested their money in this product line. Hopefully they will come up with a way to compensate them.
Anyhoo, enjoy today’s video!

Thanks to your comparison video, I ordered Copics, not Blendabilities! Now I’m even more grateful!!

Darlene – thanks. Was okay with the Blendabilities, but they were so hard to get open! I like the Spectrum Noir markers. A bit less expensive than the Copics. But I need to use them more. Your videos are great. Love this elephant couple. Reminds me of Dumbo. Great stencil idea!

This set is just so darling, I love all of this cute little images with mama or papa and baby, this particular image also reminds me of Dumbo and his mama. Your stenciling is great, love the dimension of the black against the other colors.
I was very tempted to buy a few sets of the Blendabilities but one of the things that turned me off was the fact that you HAVE to buy the sets and if one runs out of ink because you use it a bit more, you COULDN’T order that particular one, you HAD to buy the set of three again. I’m glad I held on, I’m actually increasing my Copic Marker collection little by little, I love them.
Thank you for another fabulous video Darlene.
I do have a question about the Stencil Challenge…..can we submit more than one card? Just wondering.
Darlene DeVries
Maria, I agree with you about the 3-packs. Personally, I only purchased two 3-packs to try them out. I guess we now know why people were complaining about the ink running out so quickly! And then they would have to buy 3 more. I do respect SU for their quality, and I’m glad to see they are concerned about it. It wouldn’t surprise me if they came out with some special deal or promotion for demonstrators who invested a lot of money in them. Otherwise, I think they will lose a lot of demonstrators due to frustration.
Anyway, yes, you can enter the challenge with multiple cards!

Darlene I could watch you for hours and hours. I love your stuff! The effect of that stencil is stunning! Such a wonderful look from such a simple application – it’s beautiful!

Darlene, I love your videos and the kindness in your voice. You have taught me many techniques and modeled numerous designs. I appreciate all that you share. You give me confidence to continue working on skills and courage to try new things. I love the elephants. Have you seen the Wplus9 stamp set called “Unforgettable”? Precious!
Darlene DeVries
Thank you so much Sharon!! Yes, I have seen those elephants – they are adorable. And I really like the way Dawn colors them – she’s so incredibly talented with her watercoloring.
Glynda
Such an adorable card!
Mary Jane
Awesome card and I love the stenciling!

Hi Darlene,
I had a question on the Misti. I’m thinking of purchasing one but do I need the grid sheet that they sell separately or is one included?
Thanks!
Darlene DeVries
The paper grid sheets are sold separately, but I don’t have them. I’ve heard they are very useful though. The grid sheet I printed on the transparency was something they provide free to download off their site.
Elyse
I have a few (very few( of each kind, and seem to use them sparingly.
Off the subject, I just did some more exploring of your website, and went through the FAQ’s. I read the article about how you do your videos, and I want to tell you – I really appreciate how you get yourself organized before you start the video. I dislike watching a video where someone stops and searches for something they should have had handy. I also love the fact that you use what’s available (your perch for the video camera, etc). And I just really look forward to viewing your videos. What a pleasure.
Darlene DeVries
Thank you Elyse! It’s funny – I have instructions, I line all the products up in order, but inevitably things STILL get lost on my desk in the middle of the recording. Good thing I have a video editor too. 🙂
Angie
I so look forward to your cards – love watching your videos!
Kim Bears
Love this card Darlene!! 🙂

awww I love elephants. =) For a second there Darlene…I was thinking…why in the world is she using her stamp-a-ma-jig with her MISTI? Then I remembered your review video…duh me, right!??? Great card and video. Thanks so much for sharing! =)
SandraMaria
Whew! I kept getting ‘comments are closed for this post’…I guess I needed to sign in again. >.<

Cute! You just know how to pull it all together. Love the stencil two-tone for the safari look. The red hearts add a nice touch also. Thanks for another awesome card.
Melissa
Great card, Darlene! I absolutely love how you use new products but also use products that we may already own. There are so many amazing new products coming out but who can afford to be constantly buying new items! It’s always great to see new ways I can use stamps/stencils etc I already own! Thank you!!!
Miss Robin
Darlene, in watching your video I wondered if you have the Simon Says Stamp Inks and if they will stain the MISTI when your paper is smaller than your stamp or when you ink the stamp and it gets all over the door part? I know that they stain the stamps but was wondering about the MISTI.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Robin. I haven’t tried it with the SSS inks yet, but I’m guessing they will probably stain the Misti, as will some other dye inks. If you want to keep it clean, then I would suggest putting scratch paper underneath every time you stamp. Kind of a pain, but if you just keep the same sheet in there all the time it’s probably not a big deal. She sells paper grid sheets also.
Miss Robin
I was wondering more about when you have the stamp on the “lid” and you are stamping it. I always seem to get ink on my blocks, etc. and was wondering how that might affect the “lid.”
Miss Robin
Sorry, I misspoke. I meant to say that when you have the stamp on the “lid” and you are INKING the stamp up. I always seem to get ink on my blocks, etc. and was wondering how the ink might affect the “lid.”
Darlene DeVries
I always get ink on my blocks too, and I’ve been getting it on the Misti. I just take a baby wipe and wipe it off before closing the lid. Is that what you are asking? The stenciled grid is on the other side (top) of the lid, so it’s just smooth acrylic.
Miss Robin
Yes, that’s what I’m asking. I’m just wondering if the Simon inks will stain the lid? Maybe if you wipe it off right away, it won’t stain? Just wondering.
