Special Guest: Juana Ambida

Hi All!

If you recall, I mentioned in the Survey Results that I would potentially invite some special guests to LiveLoveCards to share their talent with you. Well, that day is already here. 🙂 When I saw Juana Ambida‘s designs, I immediately knew you would love her. She is a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in Australia! I love how I can say I know people all over the world because of crafting. I love what Juana created for us today – it’s clean and colorful at the same time. It made me look at this stamp set again! Please check out her blog for even more inspiration. Enjoy!

Juana Ambida

Hi I’m Juana and love card making and paper crafting and have a background in art and graphic design. These areas compliment each other in the visual form and I love to work with both images and colour incorporating many influences and techniques. I have been a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator for a over a year now and am enjoying the creative aspect plus the perks and discounts of being a demonstrator. I was fortunate to display stamping at last year’s Onstage Live event in Brisbane and excited to have been accepted to do it again this year in Sydney. I love to be creative and being able to share that is just rewarding, and being recognised is the icing on the cake.

I’m so honored to have been asked to be a guest designer by Darlene, as I wasn’t expecting this at all, she is so sweet to have invited me. I totally agree with Darlene that through crafting we get to know people from around the world plus see all the talent out there.

At first it was hard to choose which stamp set to use, but I decided to go with Everyday Hero from the 2017 Occasions catalogue. Not only is it one of favourites and fun to use, the sentiment and images are attributed to Darlene’s humanitarian work in donating to charity in her talent and card making. I would say that Darlene would be a super hero in this respect and the card compliments her generous work. She’s incredible! 🙂

Everyday Hero is perfect to colour in and suits many styles. It allows you to create your own custom made comic strip and your own superheroes. It’s a great set with many design possibilities and coordinates well with others for even more creativity.

To make this card, stamp the building image on white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo black ink. Stamp two more images on post-its and fussy cut it for the mask. Build up the cityscape skyline in two rows:

Juana Ambida

Using the cut out mask, mask off the top row of buildings and apply the ink blending. I have used a round mini ink blending tool to apply the pool party ink. Use a light pressure and minimal ink and gradually build up the colours to get a seamless transition:

Here are the results of the inside and outside panels after coloring some of the details with Copic markers:

To build the superwoman, stamp the head first, then body and cape using Memento black ink. Colour her in with the desired colours. Once coloured, fussy cut.

Cut out the panel for the photo/polaroid frame twice. Using the second panel, die cut the top half with Layering Squares Framelits. The completed shape should look like a polaroid frame.

Taking the cut out frame panel, stamp WOW sentiment (outline) in Memento Black ink and the stamp shadow image of WOW in Pool Party. Stamp “You’re Incredible” underneath in Memento black ink.

With the solid panel frame, stamp the ray image four times with Versamark ink. Place the rays in areas where the bottom will be covered up by the superwoman. Add white embossing powder and heat set. Do the same with the stars. Ink blend with Pool Party to a gradient finish, with the darkest at the top.

Here are the finished pieces:

Finally, adhere all the panels together. Pop the superwoman and frame up with dimensionals.

Thank you and hope you like the card. 🙂

Oh, how fabulous is this card?! I went to peek at Juana’s blog and I love her work.
This awesome hobby of ours is the most incredible tool to reach out to the farthest corners of this World and connect with other artists who share the same love for card making and sweet friendships. We might never meet in person but this is the best next thing.
Awesome card Juana, love the cityscape skyline, perfectly masked and sponged and this sweet super woman image is just adorable.

    SuzyQ

This card is so adorable! I just purchased it and it has been gathering a thin layer of dust since I got it and this wonderful idea makes me want to pull it out right away! Thank you for sharing it!

I’m a recent convert to copic markers and I’ve been pouring over the chart and which ones to purchase and your colors ares definitely ones I want to copy! I noticed that the color you have listed as being used for coloring her hair (Y31) does not show up on the Copic chart. The mistake could very well be mine, since I mentioned I’m new to Copics. Could have meant YR31 by any chance? My husband has reddish brown hair just like the hair on your design and I’d love to emulate that color you achieved.

    Thank you!

      Juana Ambida

Thank you SuzyQ for your lovely comments. It’s an absolute pleasure and so glad it’s inspired you. Apologies for that typo, you’re correct it should be YR31 (Light Reddish Yellow) part of the Pale Pastels pack. I’m also fairly new to Copics and they’re a just a delight to use. Love to see your creation. Cheers. 🙂
