Hi All!
I really enjoyed having Juana join us last month as a special guest, so I decided to invite another guest this month. You may recognize her – Caly Person is a member of our community! Check out her blog and also her Instagram, where she posts her great work. Her cards are awesome – I know you will love her. And, she’s one of those people who does it all – she works full time and has 4 young kids! A complete inspiration! Her card today includes a suspension inside a shaker, with a VIDEO. Love it! Enjoy…
Hi, Everyone!
I’m so excited to be a guest on LiveLoveCards today! It’s such an honor to be a part of this community and to share my love for cardmaking with you all. Darlene has always been such an inspiration to me and I’m so grateful for her support and for all the opportunities she’s given me to share my work! Since March’s challenge is focused on “Cards for Kids,” I wanted to make a fun shaker card. I recently purchased two monster-themed stamp sets – a solid set that I’ll be using today and an outline set that I can use to color with various color mediums when I feel like spending more time on coloring. They are kid-friendly for any occasion and I’m looking forward to using them! Here is a close-up:
View the video below and scroll down further for more detail.
I started by ink-blending a piece of cardstock using distress inks. This shaker card is so simple because it uses a frame die to cut this one piece into three and you don’t need to create any extra backgrounds pieces. Check out the supplies below. If you don’t have a frame die – you can also measure/draw out your frame on the back side of your piece and carefully cut the frame out using a paper trimmer.
I stamped my images in various colors and used my Brother Scan N Cut 2 to cut out the monsters. Fussy cutting works too! I didn’t buy the coordinating dies. If you want to emboss the shaker window or the inside portion of card, you’ll want to do it before any assembly. I had already assembled my card so I kept it simple with a black sentiment on the card. In order to suspend a monster inside the shaker portion, I used a strand of invisible/transparent thread and loosely adhered it at the top and bottom of the frame prior to attaching the shaker frame.
I added a window sheet to the frame to hold in sequins and added foam tape to the frame for the shaker portion. Three more monsters on the top of the shaker portion finishes off the card. This card is very simple and I hope you’ll try it!
Thank you for visiting! I hope you all enjoyed this card.
XOXO,
Caly

I think girls would enjoy the monsters too! I have 5 granddaughters and I was thinking about getting this set to make cards for them – monsters can be any color, right??
Caly
Yes! I definitely think girls would love pink and purple monsters 😉

Wow, love the little suspended monster! I just made about 5 shaker cards with the Little Monsters stamp set, and would have loved to have added this element! Oh well, next time…I will add to my favorites! TFS?

What a fun and amazing shaker card Caly! I had never seen a suspended image before in a shaker card, so this was exciting for me. Yes, I live under a rock a lot! lol It was also nice to meet you Caly and I hope Darlene has you back as a guest designer. You rock! Hugs, Brenda

Hi Carly!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this card!! You Scan and Cut cut out those shapes PERFECTLY. I am learning how to cut out shapes with my Silhouette. Everything is always a smidge off! Thanks for sharing with us. Now I’m off to find your blog!!
Caly
Thanks Jennifer! I hope I don’t disappoint! The Scan and Cut will scan and cut images in one pass – you don’t have to upload the images into an extra software. I think that’s the problem with the Silhouette and the Cricut :). It’s very stamper-friendly!
Bertie
So cute. Love the frame for the shaker part and of course the little monsters.
