I bought my first new holiday set: Color Layering Joy Message by Hero Arts. I bought it because of how dimensional you can make the letters – there are 4 different stamps that you can layer.

September Challenge

I combined it with the Christmas Scribbles set by Ellen Hutson (which I used for my 2014 family holiday card). Here is a close-up of the JOY layering:

September Challenge

I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to help me line up the stamps – I find that it’s easier to use this tool rather than trying to see through the stamps to line them up. You may notice from the close-up photo that the stamps aren’t perfectly lined up. After much deliberation, I think this is called life. They looked lined up when I stamped them, but alas, I’m getting older. It doesn’t help that I have a really good camera. 🙂

Anyway, enjoy the video. I look forward to getting some holiday inspiration from your entries!

This is a one-layer card, slightly smaller than A6 (to give room for the image & greeting). I used Hero Arts stamps (the "Stain Glass Nativity" is discontinued, but "Joy to the World" is still available) & a My Favorite Things stencil. Tfl! 🙂

Thoughtful Branches Christmas card with glittery tree.JPG
Thoughtful Branches Christmas card with glittery tree.JPG
I used the SU Thoughtful Branches set and dies. I did see this idea on You Tube and had to go purchase glitter paper to make it. I used Sizzix Adhesive on the back of my tree and it was very easy to cut and apply. The sentiment came from Power Poppy. I enjoyed making this card and may make several to use this Christmas season.

Still playing with the Thoughtful Branches set from SU. The greeting came from a Gina K Designs set called Winter Foliage (retired). I used a Versamarker to make dots on the branches then white embossed for snow.
Christmas Card die with two colors.JPG
Christmas Card die with two colors.JPG
I purchased a new die set designed by Stephanie Bernard with Sizzix. It arrived in my mail today, so I had to play with it. The red and white paper is Hobby Lobby heavy weight and the green is SU. I tried cutting the Merry Christmas with both the red and green paper at the same time. It took a several times through the machine and I think my paper moved a bit. I salvaged it, but I wouldn't recommend cutting two layers of heavier weight paper at the same time. I decided to layer the colors. I used wet glue to put the greeting on the card. It was okay, but I think other alternatives would be better. This was a live and learn card. I thought I would share in case someone else purchased the die or is thinking on it.

Christmas Card die with foiled paper.JPG
This is my second time with this new die. I used a paper pack that has foiled paper in it, from Hobby Lobby last Christmas. I also used Sizzix Adhesive on the back of the paper, applied before cutting. It takes a bit to make sure the letters are in place, but it made it a lot easier to place it on the card.

I think this pair of Pumpkins are from Stampendous but I'm not entirely sure so I apologize. I stamped the image onto water color paper, colored them with SU markers and an aqua painter then fussy cut them. The bats are from a Memory box die set.

This rat image is from Kaztelkraft designs, the set comes with 8 awesome rats, super fabulous and fun. I stamped the image onto a die cut panel of watercolor paper with Stazon black ink and colored it with Prismacolor pencils. Another card for Send a Smile 4 Kids. I used a digi image from Bugaboo Stamps, and colored it with a gradient overlay in Photoshop before printing it onto white cardstock. I felt the 2 corners on my panel needed a little something extra, so I poked holes & did hand stitching with embroidery floss.

Thanks Darlene. I really like the Joy layered stamp and you did it so well. It really is stunning.

I never thought of using the Stamp-a-ma-Jig for layering stamps. Really neat idea. I generally just use my MISTI and do a lot of looking around the edges of each stamp before I pick up the layering image, to make sure it’s lined up. Actually works pretty well, or maybe the layering stamps I use just don’t require THAT much precision. LOL I have had problems with double-stamping with my Stamp-a-ma-Jig, that the stamp didn’t line up perfectly the second time, even though I kept the handle in place the whole time. 🙁 So, since I’ve never figured out why, I’m hesitant to do that. Anyhoo, I love the simplicity of your card, Darlene! Great colors, and I like the white & silver embossing on the “joy” word. Have a great weekend! 🙂 ~ Andrea

Hi Andrea. It could be the way the block is positioned in the handle when you stamp the second time. Make sure your block isn’t too much bigger than your stamp. Before you stamp each time, hold it above the paper and be sure the block is exactly in the corner. Stamp straight down, lift straight up. Once I started following this process, I got a perfectly aligned stamp every time. Good luck!

I’ve had the same issues, so thank you Darlene for these pointers, I will try this the next time to see if I have better luck.

I keep trying to upload photos and it says upload failed because image too large. Does this mean I should make more CAS cards? Lol. Seriously though, I have never had this problem before. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Alma. I just checked all my settings and there is nothing that I can find that limits the size. And I haven’t made any changes. Are you taking the photo with your phone?
