Hi All!
There are actually two techniques used on this card… “rock ‘n roll” and “velveteen”. Rock ‘n roll is when you ink your stamp with a light color, then roll the edges in a darker color. It has been around for a long time but I thought I would revisit it.
Velveteen is a look you get when you stamp in white ink, then stamp in dye ink on top. You can see the white design showing through on my close-up picture:
I learned about this technique from a video by Shari Carroll on the Hero Arts Blog. I’ll have to do it again with some darker ink colors next time, which will really show the white underneath.
Enjoy the video and I’ll be back Friday with another.

Darlene,
If your drawing is amateur than we want say what my drawing looks like very beautiful card. I’m glad you used this stamp set today you gave me an idea because this is one that just’s sitting on the shelf.

Love the card! Great techniques…and BTW, your drawing is not amateurish at all, it was just perfect. 🙂
Marianne
Loved your card…can you tell me what the “velveteen” technique is…you didn’t mention it in the video, unless I missed it?
Darlene DeVries
Hi Marianne. The velveteen is when you stamp with the white ink (my flourish background), then stamp on top of it with colored dye inks. The white shows through. You can sort of see it in my close-up photo.
Marianne
Thank you!!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who appreciates you leaving your inking of the image sheet in the video. One, we’ve all been there; two, maybe you prevented someone else from doing it. I hate when I mask a stamp with tape and forget to remove the tape before stamping. 🙂
Darlene DeVries
Terri, I haven’t done that one YET. Maybe you mentioning it will keep me more alert, as you say. 🙂

Oh Darlene, you have the most steady hand I’ve seen anywhere, your straight lines are totally STRAIGHT!! and this steams and leaves look like you stamped them, simply fabulous.
Love this beautiful flowers and the Rock and Roll technique is fun and easy to do, fantastic card, thank you for sharing.

Really lovely. I think your leaves & stems look terrific. I thought it was another stamp. I never can get this rock & roll technique right. Think it’s because I was using to big of a block .Thanks for the tip.
Marie
Beautiful card!

I’m so glad to see you use the Ranger enamel accents! I bought two bottles at a craft store having a huge sale and have been staring at the bottles for a month now not knowing what to do with them.
Darlene DeVries
Hi Barb. They are also really good for dotting eyes in animal stamps.

I had to meet my SU minimum thus quarter and I just ordered this set! So excited to see you using it. Love the card!
Darlene DeVries
Hi Janet. I also used it on THIS CARD. It’s a great set!
Jan
Very pretty. I’m lovin my misti too. It saves me a lot in errors! Just did a personalized gift tag for my niece for Easter. She will be impressed and it was so easy with misti. The rock and roll technique makes for a nice touch.. It sure looks like you spent hours on it. Thanks for sharing.
Annette
Thanks for revisiting the rock ‘n roll technique. I love the velveteen look and will be trying this out very soon. Your ‘greenery’ is just perfect.

I don’t think you need to worry about drawing the leaves on this card. The ones you drew were delicate and fitting for the flower design. Nicely done
Suzleon
Beautiful card. I love the colors and the technique is one I am going to definitely give a try.
Anita
Perfect card again! I just loved how the flowers came to life when you stamp the centers on them. This is a must try card! Thanks for the inspiration.

Darlene DeVries
Question From Connie: Hi Darlene, I really love your rock and roll technique this week. I don’t have the Ranger black enamel that you used in the flower centres but I do have a black soot distress marker and glossy accents. Thought I could use them instead of the black enamel to achieve a similar effect. What do you think? Happy Easter!
Darlene DeVries
To get the same effect, I would try coloring the glossy accents with the black marker after it has dried. Because the Black Soot is very water-based, it may not cover the accents. In that case, I would use a Copic marker or a sharpie.
SandraMaria
Wow, beautiful card and I love this technique. I’ve never heard of it before so it’s new to me. Your leaves and vines are darling…not amateurish at all! Kudos to you! =)
Mrs_docko
I had forgotten about the rock and roll technique, probably because I am not a big stamper of images and don’t have many sets that I could use. This reminds me to pull out an old set I have and give it a go.
