Rainbow Balloons

UPDATE: Several of you have expressed an interest in sending a card to Rebecca. I am so touched by your kindness. I am going to gather up some cards and bring them to her. If you would like to send one, email me and I will tell you where to send it. She just found out that she will be fighting through 14 rounds of chemotherapy, then radiation and surgery. Anything to cheer her up would be welcome. Thank you!! 🙂

Hi All,

For this card, I used the same technique I used on Monday – distress markers and water. There is no video because I made it for the 16-year-old daughter of a friend who just found out she has a very aggressive and serious form of bone cancer. I wanted to pray for and think about her while I was creating the card and not worry about the camera.

If you wouldn’t mind pausing for just a few seconds and saying a special prayer for Rebecca, I would be grateful.

After creating the rainbow background with watercolor paper, I die cut the front panel multiple times using the heart balloon from Celebration Time. I stamped and colored one of my favorite Chubby Chums with Copic markers, then cut around his paws similar to how I cut around the cow hooves on THIS CARD. I wrapped some silver thread around each balloon, then pulled it under the kitty paws. I secured each piece with surgical tape on the back:

Here is a close-up of the thread under the paws:

And finally, here is the inside sentiment, which I got from Altenew’s Scribbled Flowers:

By the way, the letters I used were by Scrappy Cat, called Superstar Alphabet. They are old and not the greatest quality (they are acrylic), but I liked the size and style for this card. When I tried to find them to link here, I only saw them on eBay.

Anyway… I’m already REALLY enjoying this challenge – all the cards are so cheerful! 🙂

See you Friday for a new video.

Loved the card and Darlene that was so lovely of you to pray as you made it for Rebecca. I said a little prayer just now for her too. I believe in prayer after a friend had a malignancy disappear over one of her eyes after much prayer. She was only 29 at the time and would have lost her vision in that eye. She went into hospital for surgery and a routine MRI couldn’t detect the malignancy any longer. It had gone completely away a few days after she had in desperation attended a healing service. Now 7 years and 2 babies later, she’s still going strong. So I pray that this happens to Rebecca too. Miracles do still happen!!

    Hi Darlene,
I have told friends and family for years, that one of the most fun and enjoyable things for me about making a card, is the time I get to spend thinking about and praying for the recipient. Mass producing cards is not nearly as gratifying. I did say a prayer for Rebecca today and will continue to do so. Thanks for sharing this special need.
ps. I liked the card too : )

What a sweet card for this young girl, I’m joining everybody in sending positive and healing thoughts her way. I also was wondering if we can send Rebecca a hand made card, if that is possible and it’s ok with her family.
Thank you for sharing this super cute card Darlene.

Such an adorable card. At first I thought the balloon strings were stitched. My prayers are with this young lady. I will also have my 25-1st and 2nd graders pray. Prayer is truly powerful and amazing. Thank you for sharing your inspiring talent Darlene!

Adorable card for a special lady. It is wonderful that you created this special card and did not worry about the video. Sometimes a video is not necessary. I will keep her in my prayers as well as you. Friends lend support and they need prayer to keep lending the support.

What a cute card, but more than that, what a lovely idea, to ask people to pray for Rebecca. Would you be interested in having me – and anyone else who wants to – make a card for Rebecca and sending it to you to forward to her? If that’s not feasible, that’s OK too. I will pray for her and her family in any case.

    Hi Darlene,
Love the card! I am in a similar situation with a 19-year-old young man named Ben who has an aggressive and advanced form of bone cancer in his femur. I will say a prayer for Rebecca and Ben each day. I believe in prayer and the power it has. We are all children of an awesome God. I’m sure your card has touched her heart.

I join with all the other ladies here who have expressed their prayers and best wishes to Rebecca. Unfortunately, in this day & age, it’s entirely understandable that personal info, including mailing address, wouldn’t want to end up on the internet. My thought is that perhaps a special email address could be set up for Rebecca and they we all could forward prayers & hugs directly to her. It’s just a thought.

To you, Darlene, I very much appreciate both your style, talent, and most especially your spirit. Hugs to you, Elyse

Darlene, the card is very special and filled with love for Rebecca. I too believe in the power of prayer and will remember Rebecca in prayer. It seems there is so much need for prayer these days for special friends. Good thing God is a good listener!!

    Beautiful card!
Prayer is a VERY powerful thing. Prayed and will continue to pray for Rebecca. Do you think her parents would mind if we sent her a card of encouragement?
My Mom had breast cancer & prayer brought her through it. She is truly a walking miracle. Truly.

Very thoughtful of you Darlene, I’m sure Rebecca loves the card. It is so sad to hear of young people with varying forms of cancer, I have had a distant friend lose her young daughter to the disease. I will certainly add Rebecca to my prayer list for those suffering illness of various kinds. God bless her and her family.
