Hi All!
I used some Altenew products today – the Oriental Orchid set (which I also used on this card) and some of their mini ink cubes. If you’re familiar with Altenew, they have a lot of layering stamps, and they also have ink sets to help you match the colors.
To make the card a little different today, I placed my flowers off the edge of the card, but I cut my base so that my full-size measurements would remain A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″). It’s actually quite easy to do. Here is a close-up of the card corner:
One piece of very exciting news I need to share with you is that the masking tape I have been using for the last 8 years is finally available!! I purchased this 6″ x 33ft roll of Eclipse masking tape soon after I started cardmaking. It’s FANTASTIC and I’ve never seen it online in this particular rolled format, but today is the day! Can you imagine 33 feet?? It looks like I’ve barely made a dent all these years. Anyway, Ellen Hutson has it for a pretty good price. I know it’s a lot to pay up front, but it’s like a lifetime of masking, lol! 🙂 And yes, it is the exact tape I used on the card today to pickup the flowers.
One of our members received a couple of ink cube sets from Altenew that were supposed to be refills. This member asked Altenew if she could give them away, and Altenew said yes! So, thank you to this generous and thoughtful member, who wishes to remain anonymous. 🙂
Leave a comment here on this post by Wednesday, January 18th, 11:59CT, if you would like to be entered to win one of two mini ink cube sets: Red Cosmos and Rose Petal (great colors for Valentine’s Day cards!):

I love the way the flowers hang off the edge of your card. It’s very effective but something I would never have done. Now that I see that it is fairly easy to do, I am going to try it myself. When you were stamping ‘Thank You’ sentiment at the end, I thought you were very brave. It would just have been my bad luck not to stamp it evenly and mess up the whole thing! Ha! Ha! The Altenew mini cube sets are wonderful and I’d love to win one of them, especially since they cost 3 times in Australia what you pay for them in the US – if you even can find them available here. So please do put me down for the lucky draw! Fingers crossed!

I liked the flowers hanging off the edge. I bought Glad Press and Seal for the purpose you showed with masking tape, but have yet to use it in my craft room. I would love to be in the drawing for the ink cubes. I have never tried Altenew anything, but maybe one day will.

What an awesome card. I just love Orchid flowers but I can never get them to bloom. I have this stamp set but have not used it yet. A good time to try it out! Thanks for the opportunity to win the ink cubes and thank you to the anonymous member.

I love your card – clever and unique as always. Are the Altenew layered stamps really not difficult? I usually have problems lining up layered stamps, and choosing colors is also a challenge. I guess that’s the beauty of the ink cube sets – that solves one of my biggest problems.
Darlene DeVries
I have a few sets of layering stamps by Altenew. The Oriental Orchid I find to be easy to line up. However, another one I have, Vintage Roses, is more difficult. So, it depends on the set you purchase. I have a few Stampin’ Up! layering stamps and those seem to be simpler to line up.
MaryD
Thanks! I’ll have to avoid the Vintage Roses.

Oh, that’s beautiful! I usually cut my flowers off to be flush with my card base, but I do like how you left the overhanging. Add so much more interest. Thanks for sharing with us!!

Beautiful card! I really am interested in this masking tape and was looking for it before Christmas to complete an order I had and ended up getting masking paper. The tape seems much sturdier! Anyway, so very generous for the person giving away the ink cubes! Thank you!

Love this card, Darlene! I’ve been contemplating about investing in other inks and ALTENEW would be one I would definitely love to try with their mini ink cube sets! They have new alcohol markers to coordinate with these inks and I’m dying to try them if I can every justify the purchase!

Beautiful floral card. Love how they hang off the edge of the card. Great tip. I would love a chance to win the Red Cosmos colors as I already have the Rose Petal. Thanks to you and the person who donated it.

Beautiful card Darlene! Am considering ordering, but last mini cubes I bought from Altenew dried out very quickly. Hopefully no one else has had this issue.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Gorgeous! Such beautiful coloring!Love how they hang off the edge of the card. Great tip. I would love a chance to win the Rose Petal colors as I already have the Red Cosmos. Thanks to you and the person who donated it!
God bless!

What an easy but striking effect you have created! I’ll have to try it. Also, I’ve been avoiding layering stamps because I didn’t want to buy so many ink pads. I’d love to win a set! Thanks to the donor.

Hi Darlene,
I have this stamp set, great idea about using the Eclipse tape to hold on to the orchid flowers in place. I love Altenew layering stamps. Sure would love to win an ink set.
You are using the Eclipse tape not only for masking , but also to pick up and moving cut stamped images. Using Eclipse masking tape for different uses.

Beautiful coloring on the orchids and I love the “tumbled” look of the flowers at the bottom of the card. I too would enjoy receiving one of the Altenew ink cube sets….thank you to the person who is offering them. The color selections are perfect!
jbatik2000
Beautiful card, Darlene. I don’t have any of the Altenew inks so I would love to try them. I think I am going to try this card with some of my other flower stamps.
Peg C
What a great card, not sure now why I asked for more SU in the survey when we have other great Companies and beautiful colours! love this card and going to check my Uk suppliers ……… please let them have it!
Andrea
Gorgeous flowers on your card, and I like how you have them “piled” on the bottom. I’ve done something similar, letting things hang off the edge. But I glued everything down first–within the confines of the card base but not hanging off the edge of the base itself–then trimmed the card base to follow the contours of the elements I’d glued down. Wish I could explain it better! Still ended up A2 size, but the back of the cardstock on the portion where the elements were glued was smooth then. Anyway, thank you so much to the generous member who is donating the ink cube sets for a giveaway! I would appreciate either set personally. 🙂 ~ Andrea

I have used Aletnew stamps but not the orchids. They are very pretty. I love the look of it hanging off the edge. Your directions are so clear that I think that I may even try to do something similar. Thanks so much – and thanks for the chance to win the ink set!
Triciaschaden
I love how this card turned out! Cool idea and I’m for sure going to try it! I’ve never tried the late new inks, but I love their layering stamps!
Almadirpaul
Thanks for the great card. I just bought my first Altenew layering stamp – Peony Boquet. I have not tried it yet. Any chance you might do a card or a series with the set?;) Thank you to the anonymous donor of the giveaway. I wished I had thought to buy the inks when I bought my stamp set.
Carol Mac
I bought the peony bouquet as well and just made some cards with it and they are beautiful (if I do say so myself)! go to pintrest and there is a guide as to where to line up the flowers…it helps a lot!
Darlene DeVries
Hi Alma. I don’t have the Peony Bouquet set. It was on my list for a long time, but it was always out of stock. Then, over time, it dropped down on the list. 🙁 I’m not saying never, but right now I don’t have it. Sorry.
okiedee
What an ingenious idea!…I have that stamp set, I bought it when you used it in another tutorial..I need to find that tut and use the stamp set. I will also follow this one. I love how you let them hang over..I would never have thought how to do it. I do have the roll of Eclipse, I have had it forever…now I will use it!
Thanks for this wonderful tutorial..you gave me inspiration.
Will have to try the inks someday.
sanasmom
That’s an awesome card! I think I’ll have to buy one of Altenew’s layering stamp sets. I would love to have their ink pad sets too as I never know what colors to put together!
Irene
Thanks to the anonymous member for the giveaway. I have a few of Altenew’s layering floral sets, but haven’t gotten around to their inks yet. This would be a great way to try them — thank you!
Love the card, Darlene. I will need to try this! As always, thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful Thank you card, Darlene! The masking tape hint is wonderful, can’t wait to try it, maybe with hearts for VD! I’ve admired Altenew’s Beautiful stamp sets, and would love to try their ink cubes. Thank you anonymous donor for sharing with US!
Carol Mac
Love this idea and love the card too! Thanks for the chance to win! ?

Beautiful card, Darlene. I need to try that hanging over the edge technique….adds so much to the card. I would love to win the ink cubes, too. Thanks to you and the anonymous donor for the chance to win.
clarkmbl
Well this card has been added to my favorites! Very fun border indeed. That is wonderful of Altenew to allow the give-away and I hope whoever wins them enjoys them!
Susan Berry
Beautiful card. I like the way the flowers are hanging off the edge . . . I will have to try. I don’t have any of the Altenew inks so I would love to try them. And would love to win the cubes. Thank you anonymous donor for a chance to win.
Diana
So, so lovely. A real treat for the eyes – especially with our cold, windy, Midwest weather. Love those ink colors. My favorite shades.
Brenda L.
What a beautiful card Darlene! I so love orchids so this set is on my wish list. Hugs, Brenda

What a cool idea! The flowers off the edge is a great WOW factor?. I would like my name in the drawing for the ink cubes. Thanks to the member who donated them.
Barb H.
Another gorgeous card. How generous of the member to give away those ink cube sets. I could use some help finding colors that go together well. Please put my name in the drawing.
Carolyn
The card is beautiful and I would LOVE to win some Altenew ink cubes so I could put them to work! The colors are gorgeous and it would be great to try out the brand.
Cheryl
I love this card! I’m planning to make a birthday card for a special friend tomorrow and I’m going to try this technique. Would love to try the Altenew stamp cubes. I’ve been buying cubes instead of full size pads when I buy ink because you can get so many more colors that way.
Duffbarn
Another beautiful and unusual card. I’ve never met a flower I didn’t love, but this spray is really wow!
melegere
Love te dimension of the flowers hanging off the edge. Please add me to the drawing, the colors are gorgeous, especially the pinks & purples.
Sarah
I would love to try these ink sets for flowers and such. Thanks for the opportunity, anonymous!
swimbikerunat60
Beautiful cluster of flowers, love this shades of purple. This Altenew stamp sets are so easy to use and you always get fantastic results.
You have so much patience Darlene, fussy cutting all of this little flowers, I know this set has a companion die set but, this images are not to complicated to snip our with a good pair of sharp scissors.
Thank you for the chance to win this awesome blog candy.
Hugs,
Maria Rodriguez.
Linda
Your card is so beautiful! Must give this a try. I would love to win one of the Altenew ink sets. Many thanks to you, Altenew and the anonymous donor for this opportunity!
DebbyM
Love your cards, especially the floral ones. Thanks for the opportunity to win a set of Altenew inks.
nmbwen
I love this stamp set and the clever way you used it. Thanks for the inspiration. Something so simple as letting the flowers go off the the edges (why didn’t I think of that! Duh) makes this card so special. Thanks for sharing.
LJ
Wow, another awsome card Darlene. The stamp set is on my “I really need this list”. The color choices were pervect. Going to give this a try. Thank you for the post.
Becka
Really nice, the hanging off the edge. You sure are good with your scissors. My cutouts usually look all bent up, but I’m working on it – especially since dies are becoming so expensive. You can practically buy two stamp sets for the price of one set of dies! I love dies, but guess I’d best learn how to cut.
Change of subject. I do like the variety of cards you get out of one stamp set.
Glassygram
What a lovely card. Interesting idea and something you could do with other flower stamps if you don’t have the one you used. I would love to be entered for a chance to win one of the stamps sets. But if I’m lucky enough to win, could you send the set to Connie in Australia? Wow having to pay triple for some crafting items!
CMA
What a nice pay it forward gesture!! Darlene love this tip/trick with the flowers and tape.
thecardsmith
Very fun technique. Think I’ll try it tonight since I need a birthday card for my son’s teacher tomorrow. Good timing. 😉
Glenismaree
This card is gorgeous and I love the colours. As a matter of fact I have been looking at buying some sets of these stamp pads just this week but they are quite expensive in Australia. Oh, I might just have to bite the bullet and order them!!!!
Happymom2010
What a fantastic idea of leaving the flowers out of the edge. It really brings the special touch to the amazing card you created. Thanks for sharing your talents !!!!
Thanks for the chance to win too !
