Hi All!
I purchased the Painted Petals set from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog. I really love this set a lot. The flowers are realistic without the stress of being too realistic. Does that make sense? I like the stamps as-is, but I think it brings the flowers and leaves to a whole new level when you highlight them with just one colored pencil. I took a photo of the flower panel after all my stamping but before highlighting with the colored pencils:
I used Prismacolor, but you could use any type of colored pencil. I mentioned in the video that it’s important to use a dull tip – you want to apply light shading, not heavy coloring or drawing.
I also used something new today called Shape ‘n Tape by LifeStyle Crafts (aka We R Memory Keepers). It’s kind of like washi tape, but it comes in a pack of 6″x12″ sheets. You can slice it or die-cut it any way you like, then peel off the backing and adhere. I purchased the black and gray packs, but they come in other colors.
I actually created this card first, using the same stamp set:
I used the same colors (and colored pencils), but this card doesn’t have So Saffron included. I think it looks way better with the yellow, don’t you think? For this card, I heat-embossed my sentiment on vellum, cut it into a banner on one side, then tied some black thread around it.
Prismacolor colors used: Crimson Red, Violet, Dark Green, Mulberry, Cerulean Blue, Goldenrod
Enjoy!

So pretty, I have this stamp set but my flowers and petals are all joined together for 2 step stamping of the flowers and leaves! now I feel I should cut them apart like yours are, I know SU had them separate by error, I guess I might buy another set to cut apart!
What would you advise is best please – joined together or separated?
Darlene DeVries
Hi Peg. I did not cut the stamps. I just inked up the part I was going to stamp, or I used a post-it to mask what I didn’t want to cover. I definitely would not cut them.
Peg C
Thanks Darlene, yours are already separated and mine aren’t mine are all in one piece (the leaves and flowers) I could see from the video your little flower for example in yellow and soft sky are individual stamps and mine are all in one piece so that when I stamp the leaves and flowers they all line up for 2 step stamping, hope this makes sense
Darlene DeVries
That’s really strange Peg. Did you buy yours outside the US? Mine were separate when I got them.
Peg C
Yes Darlene, I’m in the UK I got the photopolymer set and SU have said the first batch were a set of 18 stamps and mine are a set of 13, as mine are joined together, I’m thinking of getting another set and cutting them so I have both options! Lol x
Thanks for your replies and just to say I’m loving the videos you share x

Love it Darlene, what a labor or Love my dear, but the end result is stunning. The addition of the coloring pencils made the difference, the flowers look more vibrant and more defined.
Thank you for another beautiful card and video.
Maria.
PS. I have the same Prismacolor Pencils, a set of 24, I love them.

So pretty Darlene,
I was on the fence about this set, but as usual, you pushed me off!! I will make certain to order this one at my next workshop. I love the addition of the colored pencil shading. So clever you are!! Always a joy to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Bethoula
Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing! Have you seen the M.I.S.T.I yet? You never have to worry about placement again when you use it! I love mine!
Darlene DeVries
Hi Bethoula. Yes, I have seen the Misti. It’s tempting, and I will probably end up getting it at some point, but the price point seems a little high. Do you really find it works that much better than the Stamp-a-ma-jig?
Bethoula
Hello again, dear Darlene, yes, it so much better than the Stamp-a-ma-jig! At least for me it is. I do a lot of multiple cards every month and the use of the MISTI cuts the stamping time down almost in half for me, and I don’t miss place it on my table like the Stamp-a-ma-jig! I just love it. As a stamping tool, it is a little pricey but for me it was well worth it! Hope this helps! Can’t wait to see your next project! Mary Beth a.k.a Bethoula
Darlene DeVries
Thanks for the feedback Mary Beth. With how everyone keeps talking about it, I may just have to get it. 🙂

Darlene DeVries
Nothing better than something that looks more complicated than it is! 🙂

Hey Darlene
Wow, when I first saw your card I thought you stitched the edges. Great use of the
Shape and Tape. Beautiful card.
Laura
Beautiful card, I just love it! I think I will go through my flower stamp sets and see if one I have will work with this technique and layout. Love the idea of using the colored pencils for shading, can’t wait to give that a try. Every week another awesome card, you’re on fire girl! Thanks Darlene!
Annette
Beautiful effect with the pencils highlighting the images. You may have convinced me to get this set now. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration Darlene.
