Hi All,
For the background on today’s card, I decided to go with something a little different. Rather than smooth watercolor, I brushed on swipes of fairly dry color. No plain water prep or water-spritzing beforehand. By doing it this way, you get a textured look… kind of like the flowers are against a wall rather than a sky.
The flowers are pretty easy to color because it’s another one of those repetitive techniques. Just keep doing the same thing on each petal and eventually it all comes together and looks great! Here is a close-up:

I love the way you did the background. It was quite effective. When you showed us this Stampin Up set from your catalogue purchases, I really wasn’t all that impressed with it. But after seeing both cards you’ve made with it, I’m giving it serious consideration.

I’m with you Connie, I was not too impressed with that set either, so I usually check out what Darlene does, or Pintrest and YouTube to see what ppl do with them before I buy. For example, I saw a video using the serene scenery paper pack from SU and these pages make for really nice sympathy, thank you and thinking of your cards! The catalogue does not do justice to some of the products.
Did you have your surgery yet? How are you making out?
Connie
Hi Carol Mac, My surgery was 7 July. So it’s all done and dusted, as they say! I was in hospital overnight with no rehab. I’m walking a lot with crutches and doing exercises at home. It’s a slow process. They say it takes 6-8 weeks to do everything again even though full healing takes a year. Some people rush it but risk falling which could be disastrous. I’m being sensible. Thanks for asking!

Great card. Love the offset panel. Very cool and easy instead of trying to center. May have to look into this set as well. Thanks for all the inspiration.

Such a pretty card. And, thanks for the tip on watching the video full screen. Wow! I’ve noticed you have been using Hero Hues black more recently. I agree about with this stamp set…another one to add to the large wish list!!

Stunning card, Darlene! I love this technique and will be using it. Thank you.

Oh, this is just GORGEOUS!!!! And I have everything you used to make it too! I love it when that happens!

Beautiful card Darlene, love the coloring. I need to heed that advice when I color! I did know you could make the screen full when watching video’s. That is the only way these old eyes can see anything. lol Hugs, Brenda

You are so fluent with your computer skills that I was amused to visualize you seeing the big picture — i.e., the full screen view. I often use that feature and enjoy seeing the details (up close and personal) of your talented card making techniques. Thanks!

I know – I was almost embarrassed to admit it, lol!

Darlene, I think that is a really neat background…much different that usual watercoloring! I love lilacs and you made these ones look so realistic! TFS ?
Suzanne
So pretty, Darlene! I love how you did that background!
Andrea
I have pretty much always viewed videos full-screen, here & on YouTube. You’re right–it makes all the difference in the world! I love the monochromatic color scheme on your card here. Those flowers are just gorgeous! 🙂 ~ Andrea

Well, I have to say I didn’t know about the full screen thing. WOW!!!!! Cool idea and life changing! Thanks for a wonderful different card. I also felt about that stamp set as some of the others! It goes on my wish list too!!

Beautiful and so simple! You have to have art somewhere in your background, you are so good with colors. I struggle with them.

Love the background. I think I will be trying this one! Thanks for teaching us!

Hi there. How’d I miss this surgery? Hope all continues well. I have two artificial hips and dance away! This card is lovely. You never disappoint….

Enjoyed this video. Love this card but have decided that SU is just so expensive in Australia (A$45) for that stamp set (for two flowers). I would rather get 2 Altenew sets for that price.
Elyse
Beautiful! Love simple beauty.

Such beautiful colors and card Darlene. I don’t watch your video since a while because of a lake of time, so I am sooo happy to have a bunch to see :))
Best !
