October Challenge: Halloween!

Halloween Challenge

Hi All!

Welcome to the October Challenge! I really don’t make a lot of Halloween cards, so I’m really looking forward to doing more for this challenge.

The last day to submit your entry is Wednesday, October 31st, 11:59pm CT. One random winner will be selected from all entries and announced on Thursday, November 1st.

SimonSaysStamp Gift Voucher
The giveaway will be a $25 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp, one of my favorite stores!

Okay, just to recap the main rules:

  • Your card should be in the theme of Halloween.
  • You can submit as many entries as you like! However, please submit only one entry per card.
  • After submitting your entry, leave a comment on the entry just before yours.
  • Leave more comments on entries, if you’re so inclined. 🙂
  • To be eligible for a prize, you must be an active member of LiveLoveCards at the time the winner is announced and your card must have been made in the current month.

Are you ready to enter? CLICK HERE!

Today’s card is really simple and easy to make:

Halloween

It’s very hard to get a good photo with the black and the sparkliness of it. I used the Simon Says Stamp Repeating Circles die, which makes these windows very aligned with no effort! But, you could of course repeat a circle die yourself or use a punch. I feel like punches aren’t as popular anymore, but I really do think they are so useful!

Fill your circles with whatever you have on hand – pumpkins, witch hats, bats, ghosts, or even skulls.

I jazzed up my spiders with Black Sparkle embossing powder and my candy corn with Wink of Stella clear glitter pen. Here is a close-up:

Halloween

Have fun with the theme this month… I can’t wait to see your cards!

I love making Halloween cards and using the wonderful colors of the season. This little witch is one of my favorite stamps.
Mummy Card for Grandson Rowan
Mummy Card for Grandson Rowan
I used some SU stamps that are older versions. All stamps are embossed. Grass die from Impression Obsession. Punched hole 1-3/8 inch to place 1" spider, hung with fishing line (spider stamped twice so that it shows when the card is opened. Spider anchored between face of card and black cover sheet with heavy-duty 3/8" double-sided tape and the fishing line so it is taut. Wink of Stella clear pen used on mummy.

This second Halloween card was made almost identically to the first one. Pumpkins were added from dies and stamps were colored with Copic markers. Scarecrow filled in with Wink of Stella clear pen.

This third Halloween card is almost identical to the first two, with resources being the same. Fog around skeleton is from Color Box Frosted White ink. Wink of Stella clear pen used to highlight skeleton and pumpkins, with pumpkins being colored with Copic markers.

Inspired by a Sandy Allnock video. Everything is free hand. Inktense pencils, Mijello Gold watercolor and Faber Castel color pencils. I didn’t want to cover any of it with a sentiment so I’l put something on the inside. For my friend who loves Halloween, pumpkins and her black cat. We also saw Van Gogh’s Starry Night in NYC earlier this year, so this card is very personalized.

I love this repeating circles die cut! I used alcohol inks in a Haloween colored theme. Inspiration from Jennifer McGuire with using scraps. I designed a card last year with alcohol inks that I did not like so I used the scraps this year.

Used oxide ink for the background. Colored owl with Arteza real brush markers. Sprayed with Heidi Swapp gold iridescent spritz. I was ready to give up on this card until I did the spritz. My husband thought it was too cute to discard. 🙂

The design is from the Pazzle Craftroom. I used the pen tool in my machine to draw the design and sentiment on the acetate with a black Sharpie pen. I added black alcohol ink on the back to create the shadows under the window. Sorry you can see a ghosting of my hands holding the camera, I thought it added to the spooky feel 🙂 Of course google eyes on the spiders are a must!

The cocktail image is by Leigh Hannah for Impression Obsession; the cobwebs and spider by Inkadinkado- oldies all. I had fun coloring with glitter pens and using Black Soot Distress Ink (for the first time!), using deckle edge scissors to trim the panels: whisper white and garden green mounted on smoky shadow card base. Hope your Halloween is lots of good fun!

Wow, you got a lot of sparkle from your Wink of Stella pen. I wonder if I need a new one, mine has way less sparkle and it’s not that old. Love the card.

Me too! I’ve been working on Christmas cards and where I put the Wink of Stella doesn’t really stand out like I want.

I so look forward to your posts. It’s been necessary to binge watch your tutorials lately, and I am loving all of them. Hope you are all well in your house.

I just sent several Halloween cards to Send a Smile 4 Kids. Sadly (at least for me), this challenge theme is a month too late. 😿 I was wondering if we could make cards to send in for the foster kids you give cards to? I know I could just get a head start on next year’s SAS4Kids donation, but I would have to hang on to them until at least next summer. At any rate, I might go ahead & do 1 or 2 for the challenge this month. I do love how your card came out! You do CAS so well, Darlene, and you got the coloring on the candy corns spot on. Even the spiders you stamped don’t give me the heebie-jeebies. LOL Thanks so much for sharing! 😺 ~ Andrea

Hi Andrea. I’m afraid there won’t be enough time for mailing, sorting, and distributing to the kids before Halloween. I think it’s probably better to make some for donating next year. Or maybe mail some to your local children’s hospital?

Very cute card! I love the black sparkle embossing. I bought that embossing powder but haven’t used it yet. I started working on my Halloween cards last week. Almost done!

I am kicking myself for not ordering the “got candy” stamp set a couple weeks ago and now it’s gone. 🎃 Such a cute card Darlene.

Halloween in the US is great. I have fond memories of driving through cornfields with red barns and pumpkins stacked on the road for sale, then stopping to buy jams and drink apple cider. Ah! Heaven!!! But it’s not quite the same in Australia even though it is starting to take off here. Your card was just adorable and I love the SSS Repeating Circles Dies. It is on my Wish List to include in my next SSS order. As for the Wink of Stella pen, I find that some are more glittery than others. If I shake mine before use though, it seems to make it much more glittery.
