Welcome to the start of the November challenge. It’s the time of year we all relish – cards are in season, haha! Your card can be winter-themed, Christmas, Thanksgiving, or any seasonal holiday.
The last day to submit your entry is Wednesday, November 30th, 11:59pm CT. One random winner will be selected from all entries and announced on Thursday, December 1st.
The giveaway will be a $25 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp, one of my favorite stores!
Okay, just to recap the main rules:
Your entry must be winter or holiday-themed.
You can submit as many entries as you like! However, please submit only one entry per card.
After submitting your entry, leave a comment on the entry just before yours.
Leave more comments on entries, if you’re so inclined. 🙂
To be eligible for a prize, you must be an active member of LiveLoveCards at the time the winner is announced and your card must have been made in the current month.
I have a new technique for today’s card – creating a halo using your die. I have quite a few of these collage-type dies, where lots of pieces are cut out, but there is no edge. Whenever I use them, I always wish there is some sort of outline stamp. That’s what lead me to this halo technique. You can do this technique with any die that has an edge that follows the shape of the image that is cut out. For my cards, I used the Corbel Tree die and the Corbel Ornament die. Here are the cards:
Using pencils will give you the best results (I used Derwent Inktense Pencils). Here are photos of the individual cards:
And a close-up of the shimmer behind the tree openings:
Enjoy the video, and I look forward to seeing your holiday cards!
I followed Paper and Ink Sketch #8. The stamp set used in Holly Jolly by Gina D Designs. The paper is Season's Greetings patterned paper from Gina K. I enjoy following sketches.
I have had this Avery Elle stamp set for a LOOONG time, and finally got it inky! I love how I got the car to race down the hill. 🙂
Peace Love & Joy
I used the technique Darlene demonstrated for the frame on my card. Love the way it turned out!

Something fairly simple but with a big ta da! This would be pretty with a doily die cut or an intricate heart. Thanks Darlene. ?

Hi Darlene, I use SU glimmer paper and my ATG gun adhesive will not stick to it. I usually use dimentionals or foam tape. Just throwing that out there! Love the card!?
Have you ever tried liquid glue, like Tombow Mono Multi glue? I generally use some sort of glue when I’m adhering something to glitter paper, then put something on top like an acrylic block to keep everything flat until the glue dries. Perfect Paper Adhesive (another glue) works well, too. That’s generally the one I use. That way, you can adhere your layer, without having dimension, if you prefer a flat piece. 🙂 ~ Andrea

Hi Andrea, yes I have, but don’t like to use liquid glue with white card stock or dsp. If I am adhering something small, glue dots are the way! Thanks for your suggestion!?

Thanks Darlene for sharing this technique. Love your cards. Have to try it.
Darlene, I was so glad to see a notice in my e-mail that you had a video up! Today was kind of a bad depression day, and this helped me feel better. I had planned to work on cards this afternoon, but just really didn’t feel up to it. 🙁 Now I feel like getting something creative done this evening. Thank you! I really love the technique you demonstrated, and the resulting cards. I will definitely have to put this on my list of things to try. 🙂 ~ Andrea

This card seems so quick and easy. I’m sure it will have its challenges though because things always look deceptively easy when you do them (smile). I have a number of dies that will work perfectly and that I was wondering how to use. Thanks to you … I now have a plan!
Oh my gosh Darlene, this is just gorgeous!!! I’m astonished at how a simple outline and a bit of color can have such a WOW effect!! I always admire your amazing ideas and new things for us to try.
I’m going to pull out all of my outline dies and try this technique, thank you so much for sharing.
Big hugs,
Maria.
