June Challenge: Bottom Heavy!

June Challenge

Hi All!

Welcome to the June Challenge! Somewhat similar to last month’s Sketch Challenge, this challenge is called “bottom heavy”. The goal is to have all of your card elements on the bottom of your card, with the top left blank. I know – leaving the top empty sounds scary, doesn’t it? I’ve already created three bottom-heavy cards, and I have to say that it was kind of a relief! You only have to think about 1/2 the design! I hope you’ll try it for yourself. Keep in mind that your top half doesn’t have to be white – it can be any solid color.

The last day to submit your entry is Saturday, June 30th, 11:59pm CT. One random winner will be selected from all entries and announced on Sunday, July 1st.

SimonSaysStamp Gift Voucher
The giveaway will be a $25 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp, one of my favorite stores!

Okay, just to recap the main rules:

  • The top half of your card entry must be blank!
  • You can submit as many entries as you like! However, please submit only one entry per card.
  • After submitting your entry, leave a comment on the entry just before yours.
  • Leave more comments on entries, if you’re so inclined. 🙂
  • To be eligible for a prize, you must be an active member of LiveLoveCards at the time the winner is announced and your card must have been made in the current month.

Here is my bottom-heavy card for today:

June Challenge

I used Simon Says Stamp’s Under the Sea Animals, which I also used for the launch of the May Challenge! These critters are so darn cute. I created the sea free-hand with Gansai Tambi watercolors. Here is a close-up of the bottom:

June Challenge

I’ll be back over the next week with a couple more bottom-heavy designs. I’m looking forward to seeing your entries!

Altenew Roses
Altenew Roses
I used the new Altenew layered rose die. The designers paper is from Stampin' Up! I adhered a narrow strip of black card stock along the top of the DP panel to give it a frame. The sentiment was die cut 3 times and stacked together for extra dimension. Thanks for looking!

I used stamps, sequins, and a honeycomb die from a Honey Bee stamp set. The designer paper is from the Simon Says Stamp June Kit. It was a challenge to leave the top half of the card empty!

I have some new Chameleon markers in blues and turquoises, so I tried making water like Darlene showed in her video. After letting it dry, I came back and found a few fish that I had colored a few month's ago. I place them with the set for when I want to use them. This made a fun card. My husband even commented on how much he liked the fish.

This came out rather Autumnal for such a beautiful Spring day, but I guess it will keep. I think that the flowers are from K&Co. I've had them forever.

Sweet Angel Birthday Card
Sweet Angel Birthday Card
The angel was meant to be used for a magnetic book mark but seemed okay to use for this bottom heavy card too. It came from the MayMay Made It Scripture Stamp Set for May 2018 and was Paper Pieced using Stampin Up DSP. Wink of Stella was put on the wings and face. The halo was heat embossed with Stampin Up Silver Embossing Powder. Adhesive foam backing gave the angel dimension to sit in the sky on clouds, which were achieved with the MFT Cloud Stencil and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. Hope you like it!

Grand Cats
Grand Cats
This may not technically qualify for the challenge since the top half is not entirely blank. I thought Darlene’s card with the cat was so cute, and I have that stamp set, and I have two grand cats.....i had to make it, with a little adjustment to the sentiment!

I CASE'd Darlene's partially fussy cut Mondo Sakura card from Ellen Hutson and placed it on the bottom. I used Zigs to watercolor and added a simple heat embossed sentiment from Altenew.

The sentiment is from a Momenta Stamp Set. The cats and mouse are from Mama Elephant Page Hugger Stamp Set. The cats and mouse are coloured with Copic Markers. Foam adhesive on the back of the card front adhered to a Neenah Solar White card base. A pretty clean and simple card that was easy to make and I hope will be fun to receive.

"Loads of thanks" is from a SU design #139309 "You're Sublime," and the trees are branch stamps from Stamps by Judith #E 254-HK. Brown Washing tape is at the bottom border (I have no idea where this came from..lol). Colored in with Copic markers.

Oh I love those under the sea animals. I got this stamp set as part of my $25 SSS gift voucher and I’ve already designed a card for the June challenge using some of the animals in the set. But your card is wonderful and I’m afraid you just might’ve stolen my thunder. But not to worry because I’ll just CASE your card for later. Ha! Ha!

Cute card! Love the colors you used on the critters, & your background looks amazing. I do want to make sure I understand the challenge. The top of the card has to be a SOLID color–no patterned paper even? Not a problem (even though I don’t usually like to leave white space alone! LOL); I just want to make sure I understand clearly. Thanks so much for sharing this, Darlene, and for coming up with such great challenge themes! 😺 ~ Andrea

Hi Andrea. Yes, the idea is for the top to contain nothing, and I think it’s fine if it’s not white.
