Hi All,
I totally love this stamp set – it’s From the Herd by Stampin’ Up!. When I first saw it, I just envisioned the farmer whistling to get everyone’s attention, then snapping a photo. That’s why I made it look like a polaroid.
I used distress inks and an aqua painter to watercolor it. I prefer the aqua painter over a regular brush because it has a constant flow of water coming out. I made my own garland with some hearts from the confetti punch and linen thread for the upper left corner. Here is a close-up of the garland:
I didn’t stamp the bird on the front. I saved him for the inside:
By the way, if you are considering buying Distress Markers, I purchased mine at Amazon, where they are almost 40% cheaper than other online retailers. Plus free shipping if you are a Prime member.
Enjoy!

I love the watercoloring! Can you do the same thing with Stampin up markers? I am trying to use what I have!
Irene
Laura, the SU! markers don’t move as well when colored directly to the paper the way distress markers do. You may need to wet the paper first. But you can scribble them on an acrylic block or a craft sheet and use them with a water brush. Hope that helps. I’m all about using what you have, too. 🙂 ~Irene

The distress markers work a little better with water, BUT, if you use a blender pen, the SU markers do a pretty good job. You can see how I did it in THIS POST. I would recommend using Strathmore watercolor paper with the SU markers though, as the Ranger is very sensitive to pilling up with too much coloring.

Cute! I love how you made it look like a picture! Thanks for the techniques! And thanks for showing the inside!

Such a cute stamp. Makes me want to intentionally send a belated card! Thanks for the video, Darlene.

I’m always so organized that I rarely forget a birthday, so I was thinking I’m going to have to purposely do it to send this card Alma!!

This is sooo cute Darlene! Great job with the water coloring. I love how it is a picture too, so funny!

Great card. Your ability with any medium is amazing. I always learn something new from your videos. Putting the bird and balloon on the inside was a good idea. I like to take the outside of the card to the inside when possible. I am loving your “Livelivecards.com” site.

Oh my gosh!! when I saw this stamp in the catty I really didn’t like it to much but, you just convinced me to get it, the faces of this critters are just hilarious and so sweet, they do look like the farmer just called their attention and then snapped the photo.
I love your water coloring Darlene, it’s always a great idea to wet your paper just a little like you did. Water coloring is very forgiving as it is beautiful.
Love your card and your awesome video, thank you so much for sharing.
Maria.

Watercoloring those cute farm animals was perfect. I haven’t bought this set yet, but love what you have done with it so far. Your new site seems to be doing well, happy for you. Love how you show us how to fix problems in your videos.

Very cute card! I’m another one who saw the stamp set in the book and thought “No I don’t think I need that one.” Now, thanks to you bringing those critters to life, it’ll be on my next S.U. order!!!! You do have a way with your creativity … and I thank you!

Wow! This DID turn out great. Those animals look like deer caught in the headlights.

Darlene – some years ago, SU! put out a similar stamp set but this is even cuter! I love those wild eyes. Appreciated the water coloring lesson, too. Darling idea. This set may get a second look. Love your new site.

Such a cool card. A perfect card for my Dad, but I just lost him. Love your design and tips. The helpful watercoloring fix is appreciated.

Greaaaat watercoloring. Had LOTS of problems with the video -it kept stopping every few minutes, then it was waaaaait. Then just as you were cutting the balloon the video stopped and started allllllllll over again from the beginning. Soooo I used my mouse and clicked where I thought the video had stopped and just kept on clicking so I could see it to the end but with no voice. I think all in all the video took at least 25 minutes to watch before it had stopped. I have had this same problem with your previous videos but not this bad. Is there something I should be doing or can do to correct this?????

I’m so sorry you had trouble Jean. I put together a help page (you can link to it from the upper right hand menu). Take a look at some of my suggestions and see if they help. I’m also going back-and-forth with Vimeo, my video provider, to see if they have any other suggestions.
Annette
Such a cute layout for this image. Thanks Darlene for showing the watercolouring process in so much detail. Every time I see you do this, I get more inspired to try it myself.

Another great card, Darlene- love all the little details!

Wow, its so cute. I love the little bird inside! Great card!

Really great card. And want to add a special thanks for adding the inside.
Re problems w/the video, I had same problem as Jean McGee but found that when I turned the HD off it ran perfectly.
Now on to the SU link to buy the stamps and punch used for this card. I would never have considered either had I not seen your video. So, guess it’s blessings for all here!

Super cute card! I love the little bird on the inside with the balloon. 😀
