Hi All!
Today I’m using another new set I got from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions catalog called In the Trees. Actually, I’m only using one stamp in this set for now – more to come later!
I aimed to create a halo effect around the bulbs. Here is a close-up:
I used PanPastels for the background. I have a series on how to use this medium – you can find the videos here.
Enjoy the video and have a great weekend!

This card would be perfect for a man. I sometimes use Fantastix with coloured pencils but I’ve never used them with ink to achieve the effect you got with the lightbulbs – very clever! Thanks too for reminding me about the Pan Pastels. I love using them but haven’t done so in quite some time. It is so easy to get side-tracked!

I, like Connie, was impressed with the effect you got with the lightbulbs and I liked the simplicity of this card. Thanks Darlene.

I read the book you gave me (Borrowed Courage) over the holidays. Wow! What a story. Thanks. Are you the Darlene in the book who took the photos?
darlene
Yes. 🙂
Almadirpaul
Oh that warms my heart. Now I like you even more!!

I really need to start buying more stamping up products – they are really nice! And Darlene, you always seem to get many cards out of one set which is really cool! I love the lights on, this great idea!
Dayse
Thankyou for such an interesting video. The luxe ink that you embossed looks fabulous I’m a bit of a fan of memento inks in general. Do you think that because you stamped over pan pastels that it delayed the drying? Mementos usually dry almost straight away. The card sentiment really popped when you outlined it, I’m going to try that on my next card.
darlene
I suppose it’s possible the pastels delayed the drying – maybe it wasn’t sticking to the cardstock as well. Good observation Dayse!

I love the simplicity of this design! One tip (which I admittedly don’t always do myself) when you’re heat embossing, is to test the paper by sprinkling embossing powder over it without having stamped in Versamark yet. That way, if any is going to stick anywhere you don’t want it, you’ll find out before you stamp. Especially helpful if you’ve done other stamping or techniques that might have left moisture in/on the paper. Also, I was wondering if you use an anti-static tool/bag? I don’t notice you doing so in your videos. I always use one when I heat emboss, and I really think it helps, at least most times. It doesn’t keep every single stray fleck from sticking where I don’t want them, but I believe it cuts down on that. After a bit of sticker shock when I was going to get a powder bag at Michael’s, I just cut up small pieces of muslin & sew them into pouches. I fill them with cornstarch, sew them shut, and have my own for really just pennies. Anyway, just thought I’d mention that. Hope you have a great weekend, Darlene! It’s supposed to be warmer, so I’m hoping to get out at least some. 😺 ~ Andrea

Hi Andrea. Yes, I do sometimes test the cardstock first, but in this case I didn’t think I needed to because Memento never gives me trouble with drying. But, as Dayse mentioned above, maybe the Pan Pastels had something to do with the drying speed. I do have an anti-static bag, which I use on occasion. But, I usually don’t reach for it. I think the climate in my craft room is one where the powder doesn’t stick very much – lucky me!

Good tip erasing the versa mark sentiment! I will just have to remember to leave my stamp in the Misti! Laughing because your stamp-a-ma-jig is filthy…my tip to you is use an alcohol swab and it will clean it right up! Love the card!
darlene
Hi Carol – funny you noticed that! Yes, it definitely needs a cleaning. 🙂
