Galaxy with Distress Inks

Galaxy

Hi All!

For the In the Sky Challenge, I’m going super high – into space. 🙂

These types of videos make me very uncomfortable. As you know, I create a first version of a card, then create it for the second time on camera. When I know I can’t possibly replicate the first one exactly, I get nervous. I don’t know why – it’s not like someone is watching me do it. It’s hard to know when to stop with watercolor cards, especially ones like this, where putting black over pretty colors just doesn’t make sense, lol!

Anyway, I tried to go through a series of repeatable steps. Although you can do the same process, you’ll still get a different look each time. My first card had more black than this one. Here is a close-up:

Hopefully it’s not too long and boring! Enjoy and have a great weekend!

I’m so glad, Darlene, that you did a Galaxy card. I’ve been collecting different techniques for doing a galaxy background and yours is right up there at the top of the list (smile). I’d hoped to have a Galaxy card made for this month’s challenge but other things keep getting in the way. We’ll see. I’d also planned to use Distress Oxide inks for my card but now I think I’ll make another card at the same time with Distress Inks to make a comparison.

Beautiful galaxy! I think that card front would make a great cover for a little photo album. Nice.

I wasn’t too sure about the galaxy while you were working on it, but once it was placed behind the star I liked it so much better. You are brave!

Darlene, this is one of the best galaxy backgrounds I think I’ve seen yet! I like how colorful it is, but it still is not an ultra-neon, in your face kind of look. It’s what I would call a Goldilocks card–not too bright, not too dark, but just right. 🙂 I am SOOOO glad also that you have a video today. It has truly been one of Those Days! I still feel like crying, just out of sheer frustration, even though I know it wouldn’t help anything. Anyway, your videos always tend to be soothing, so I’m glad this was on the longer side. 🙂 I will have to try doing a galaxy background like you did. I’ve done them with both watercolor & ink blending, and they were OK, but nothing I would write home about. I was wondering if doing the spatters with diluted white acrylic paint, instead of the Gansai Tambi watercolor, might keep them more vibrant? Just a thought. Thank you so much for sharing this–into my favorites list it goes!!! 🙂 ~ Andrea

Hi Andrea. So sorry to hear you were having a bad day, but I’m glad I could help out, just a little. 🙂 As far as using diluted white acrylic paint – I think that’s a great substitute! I would just add a little bit of water to get a brighter white than the Gansai. Hope you’re having a good week!

Well Darlene, I am not really a galaxy person but I have to say I really enjoyed watching you do this video. It was very interesting as I was mystified as to how it was all going to turn out. Well done!

Great background and card. I wonder if you could use the distress oxide inks as well?

Hi Cheryl. Yes, you could definitely use the oxide inks, but once the colors get wet, they become a little more chalky-looking than the regular distress inks. So, your colors may not be as bright as what I have here.

I love galaxy backgrounds Darlene and so I just adore you card! However many videos I watch though I’ve never been brave enough to try a galaxy background. But I just may have to get over my fear and give it a go! I don’t care how long your videos are Darlene, I will watch them because your voice is just so soothing and relaxing. It’s always a pleasure to watch your videos! Hugs, Brenda
