February Challenge: Personalized Cards!

February Challenge

Hi All!

Welcome to the February challenge! This month’s challenge is about making things personal by incorporating a person’s name into your card, either with stamps or dies. I must say that I created two of these cards and it was SO fun because I knew exactly who it was going to.

The last day to submit your entry is Tuesday, February 28th, 11:59pm CT. One random winner will be selected from all entries and announced on Wednesday, March 1st.

SimonSaysStamp Gift Voucher
The giveaway will be a $25 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp, one of my favorite stores!

Okay, just to recap the main rules:

  • Your entry must incorporate a person’s name. Mom, Dad, Grandma, etc are all fine!
  • You can submit as many entries as you like! However, please submit only one entry per card.
  • After submitting your entry, leave a comment on the entry just before yours.
  • Leave more comments on entries, if you’re so inclined. 🙂
  • To be eligible for a prize, you must be an active member of LiveLoveCards at the time the winner is announced and your card must have been made in the current month.

I made this waterfall card for Rebecca. She is a 17-year-old friend of our family who is fighting Ewing Carcoma. Her battle continues after almost 2 years. She is currently in a chemotherapy treatment program indefinitely, awaiting new discoveries that might help her cure this terrible disease. If you don’t have someone already in mind for your personalized card, I would love to have you mail me a card for Rebecca. When she received cards from you at the beginning of her treatment, it really made her smile. You can mail the card to:
LiveLoveCards
PO Box 670126
Dallas, TX 75367

As you pull the sun tab, a sentiment is revealed, a rainbow comes out, and the bears flip over to show the letters for Rebecca:

If you remember, I also did a waterfall card for my family photo holiday card in 2015.

Because this card is an unusual size, I quickly made a special envelope with some old Stampin’ Up! paper in my stash. I used my We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board with the measurements for a 3 x 8 inch envelope (see more about the punch board HERE). I would recommend putting the card into the envelope before adding adhesive to the sides, that way you aren’t squeezing your card into it:

I found a couple more personalized cards in my gallery! I linked to my kids last week. I also found David, Elliot, and Danielle.

I know you all will be creative! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. 🙂

The background is embossed silver mirrored cardstock. I "aged" it with some black Staz-on. I cut the focal point and her name with the Pazzle Inspiration used some wink of Stella on You Rock and the final fun was I put the focal point on an action wobble. It was fun to make!
Connie's Personalised card
Connie's Personalised card
This is a 1-layer card on Stampin Up heavy cardstock . The dog is from the Crazy Dogs stamp set and coloured with Prismacolor pencils. The sun is from another stamp set and stamped in Altenew Buttercream crisp dye ink before Wink of Stella clear was applied. Peter is a friend of ours who is turning 40'and hating the thought of it. So I stamped a suitable sentiment for him. The sun also was to depict a happy sunny day. And even the little dog could be smiling!

Using Darlene's card for Rebecca as my inspiration, I decided to make a Valentine for my husband. I used the retired "Hearts a Flutter," one of the REALLY old sets, Beyond the Basics (background hearts), and the Layered Letters Alphabet from SU; Sweetheart punch; Hearts a Flutter framelits, Square Stitched Dies by Cottage Cuts; Real Red, and Pink Pirouette inks; Wink of Stella; clear embossing powder; Crystal Effects; and some glitter tape I picked up from Michael's on Christmas clearance over a year ago.

Welcome Beckett Baby Card
Welcome Beckett Baby Card
I created this for my mom to give a fellow teacher for her baby shower next week. I got the idea for "attaching" the letters with clothespins from a card on Pinterest. (The letter tiles are actually popped up on foam tape, and the backs of the pins are glued to the card to hold everything securely in place.) To get the letters on the name to fit, I had to make a rather odd-sized card. Thank heavens for my 1-2-3 Punch Board, to give me an idea for dimensions and help me create a coordinating envelope!

Birthday Card for a young lady that lives, sleeps and eats Basketball. 😉
I used a digital image from Sherri Baldy "My Besties" line, and colored it in with Copic markers. I found textured paper at Hobby Lobby that had the basketball texture on it, so I used that as the base.

Happy 21st to my Daughter Amy
Happy 21st to my Daughter Amy
This card was inspired by a card made by Sally from the UK who has a card shop. It took me a long time to stamp the sentiment, from an Avery Elle alphabet set. The letters are tiny! I need practice with the misti. Cut the paper pieces, rolled them and adhered to the card base which had to be larger than standard size to accomodate all those candles. I used gold stickles for the flames.

I loved pulling this one together. I purchased the miniature broom, wrapped it with a thin strip of black and orange ribbon, gave it a personalized label, and then paired it with the sentiment "Yes I can drive a stick." The rest of the scene was easy after I had the concept.

This recently released Simon Says Stamp set was too perfect to resist. I colored one “normal” lamb/sheep, representing me, and then colored additional ones in Easter colors. After seeing those brightly colored lambs, “dyed in the wool” came naturally to mind. Fun!

WHAT??? Darlene, that is so adorably amazing! How do you come up with this stuff? But you’re right – it doesn’t look like it would be too complicated to replicate. Thank you for all the easy-to-understand instructions. This is one of my all-time favorites!!

Awesome card, Darlene!!! I agree about instructions for the recipient. I once showed my mom a waterfall card I’d made, and she just flipped each panel with her fingers, rather than pulling the strip! 😛 So, when I told her how it works, she agreed that it was best to put some sort of instructions on it. Sadly, I’ve found even that is sometimes not enough. What’s a card maker to do? 😉 Anyway, I like how you made your letters in rainbow colors, and echoed it with the washi tape on your pull strip. Great tip on die cutting the bear, too. 🙂 ~ Andrea

    Colorful Card Maker

I love that card! It is so totally colorful, something I would make for sure. I’ll have to watch the video because that looks to hard for me to make. The first card my sister and I made at a card making class was an embossed card. It was Cinderella’s pumpkin coach and it was embossed in gold. She showed us the card and I said ‘No way I am going to make that card. I’m a beginner.’ It really was beautiful and it looked hard. She said ‘It’s not hard.’ and it wasn’t but not until she explained it step by step. I fell in love with embossing that night.
I can’t wait to start the challenge! I’ll try to make a few cards and one for Rebecca. Tell her she is in my prayers.

Darlene, you are so clever. This card is a MUST-MAKE. I have all sorts of ideas about using different animals besides your bear. The Mama Elephant Page Huggers should work too, especially for people with long names (ha! ha!). Thank you so much for this adorable card!!!.

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. I watched a friend’s 9 year old die (and a huge part of herself die right along with him, as well) from Ewing Sarcoma. My heart goes out to her and her family as she fights this battle.
