Hi All!
Before I get to the card today, I want to let you know that I have received over 1,000 donated cards! I delivered many of them to The Birthday Party Project last week and they were thrilled to get them! They had all sorts of supplies for the parties – streamers, balloons, games, presents, but no cards. It was meant to be. I’ll be collecting indefinitely. 🙂
I have to say that I love my distress inks and my distress markers. They make creating a background so easy because of how they blend with water. For today’s card, I colored Canson XL Mix Media paper with my distress markers and spritzed it with water. After some minimal moving around with a dry brush, I ended up with this background. I did a variation of this technique a couple of years ago HERE.
Here is a close-up of the shimmer and sparkle:
I used Stampin’ Up! Irridescent Ice embossing powder in the video – a clear powder with glitter. Apparently Stampin’ Up! retired it with the new catalog. However, Judikins makes something similar if you are interested.
Enjoy the video!

Darlene, when you do a stunning card, you really do a stunning card! This is definitely one of those stunners! I just love it. And I have all the “ingredients” so I’ve gotta do it soon. A question though: how much Pearl Pearls Powder do you put in your little spritzer? I don’t think I got enough when I did it but don’t want to get too much either.
Darlene DeVries
Thank you so much Connie! I take the handle end of my paintbrush and scoop some up. So, you really need very little. I’d say about 1/8″ worth up the end of your brush? I hope that makes sense.
Connie
Perfect Pearls Powder – LOL!
Connie
Oh thanks Darlene. Yes, makes perfect sense.

This is really a beautiful card. Thanks. I am thrilled that you were able to take that many cards to the Birthday Party Project. That is wonderful. I hope to keep making them but I seem to be really slow. The nice thing is when I am enjoying sitting and making cards I feel like I am doing something worthwhile. It is funny because I have a lot of friends who aren’t into anything artsy and they always ask me how I find time to make cards. I think you find time in your day to do something you love that makes others feel good. So worth it. Thanks for giving us the chance to do that.
Connie
Patty I want to ditto what you said. I haven’t been able to make cards for the past few months because I have to move around a lot when I am creating (ha! ha!) and I am recovering right now from surgery. I will hopefully be back to creating soon. My extent of creating right now is my colouring books (smile). But, I too think that making cards is not only a hobby but a worthwhile thing to do to reach out to others, whether they be friends and family or those who need a little encouragement along the way. Darlene is doing a BIG THING with this project and I also hope to be involved in it some time down the track.

Hang in there Connie. You will be creating again soon. I think it is the best thing anyone can do in these hard times. How can you not be happy when you are creating something that will make someone happy. I hope you recover soon from your surgery.
Connie
Thanks Patty. I’m keeping up the good fight!

Hi Darlene, love this card! mCan you use another cutting plate if you don’t have the black plate you used?
Darlene DeVries
Hi Carol. You could use the acrylic plate and some shims or extra pieces of cardstock, instead of the black plate. You will, however, need the silicone rubber piece.
Andrea
Darlene, I must admit, when I saw the “state” of your background panel after you got through with it (before it dried), I still thought it looked like a hot mess! Having seen the still photo of the card, I thought, how in the heck did she get that from this??? But when you showed it after it had dried, it looked a lot less streaky–more blended–but still enough to give it that “windy” effect you were after. A good lesson in not giving up on a project just because it doesn’t look “pretty” from the start! 🙂 So I for one am glad you didn’t give up. Love the final results, and thank you so much for the tutorial!!! 🙂 ~ Andrea
Suzanne
very, very pretty, Darlene!

Yet another amazing card Darlene. I love it. Thanks once again.

Beautiful card Darlene! I love the sky you made and that star die/embosser. Hugs, Brenda

Oh, my! This is such a beautiful card! Now I need that star die!
LJ
Wow, you make such lovely cards. Thank you.
Cheryl
Hi Darlene, glad you are receiving so many cards. I recently sent you 25 cards for Meals On Wheels. I’ll start working on birthday cards next. You are to be commended for organizing these card donations.

Thank you so much Cheryl!! 🙂
