Hi All!
Today begins the December Thank You Challenge! But first, the winner of the November challenge… entry #12: Lisa K! Congrats, Lisa, I emailed you.
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. Cardmakers are the most generous and kind people I know. Personally, I jump at the opportunity to send a thank you card to someone, and I know most of you are the same way. If I receive a thank you card, I want to send a thank you card for the thank you card, haha! So, I honestly don’t think this challenge is going to be too much of a challenge for you guys. 🙂
I will say, however, that over the holidays with all the parties, kid activities, shows, holiday card-making, shopping, baking, etc… my thank you notes can get a little lost in the shuffle, especially for party hosts and people who may have done something kind. So, this challenge will be a nice reminder to maintain a thankful spirit this holiday season.
If you are new to the community, I encourage you to check out the Challenges Page for detailed information about how the challenges work.
The last day to submit your entry is Thursday, December 31st, 11:59pm CT. One random winner will be selected from all entries and announced on Friday, January 1st.
The giveaway will be a $25 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp, one of my favorite stores!
Even though a random winner is selected at the end of the month, the challenge is open indefinitely. Please continue to post to the challenges. Continuously seeing everyone’s new work is a win for everyone’s inspiration!
Okay, just to recap the main rules:
- Your entry must incorporate an element of thanks.
- You can submit as many entries as you like! However, please submit only one entry per card.
- After submitting your entry, leave a comment on the entry just before yours.
- Leave more comments on entries, if you’re so inclined. 🙂
- To be eligible for a prize, you must be an active member of LiveLoveCards at the time the winner is announced.

For my card today, I decided to make it festive yet cozy:
I used this Lawn Fawn Scripty Sayings set in a similar way on THIS CARD.
I have a better method for masking all the curly details of the sentiment – the Molotow masking pen. The pen I use in the video is the 4mm tip – I’m not sure the 2mm was available when I got it. I probably would opt for the 2mm if I had to buy it again. Also, in the video, I went into more detail about how to get the best blend with distress inks using an applicator (i.e. fewer sponge marks!).
I used Gansai Tambi watercolors for my paint splatters. This paint works great with the splatters because it’s more opaque than typical watercolors. As a result, the spots don’t fade as much. the set comes with a shimmery white palette, which I also used for the splatter. Here is a close-up:
I used some masking tape that I couldn’t find online, but based on what I can tell, the 3M Post-It Tape is very similar.
As you know, I’m in my temporary crafting quarters for about another 6 weeks. Last week’s videos were done in sunshine, so it was a lot easier to get good light. It’s been very rainy here, so this video was done under cloudy conditions – I’m sorry about the shadows! Hopefully they are not too annoying.
Enjoy the video and good luck with the challenge!

Thanks for the gift card. I will begin looking for something wonderful that I can use. I will have to think of a fun Thank You for this month’s challenge. I made Thank You card with the snowflake challenge and smooshing. I had never ink smooshed before and it was fun and cleaned up easier than I thought.

Thought I would share what I purchased with the gift card. I selected the Warm Grays by Spectrum Noir, which completes my 6 pen sets, and also the round ink blending tool by Tim Holz. I haven’t used the ink blending tool, yet, but I am sure I will love it.

Glad you got some fun goodies, Lisa! 🙂

Congrats to Lisa…. your card had wonderful colors and the gold thread topped it off.
Love everything about your card today, Darlene. Cute script, sweet bear, and I’ve got to try one of those skies with splatters. Love the effect against the masked white!

Just love the bear and your execution of the background! It is just great – love the sparkly paint and that script sentiment!! Thanks Darlene!
Bertie
Great card. Loved the tutorial on the sky and coloring the bear with copics.

Super cute thank you card Darlene. I’d like to join in on this challenge, but just not sure I’m ready to start crafting since that death of my husband in Oct. But I’m starting to enjoy your video’s again. Thank you for doing them!! Hugs, Brenda

Thank you, Darlene. Cute, cute, cute. I was thinking that the blue under the Than You, could look like a shadow.

Hi Darlene, just love this card, would the splatter work the same with SU ink instead of Ranger inks?
Also Sorry to hear your loss Brenda it’s always a sad time and hope you get to craft again soon.
Contrats to Lisa on the last challenge

Hi Peg. If you mean splattering with water, then yes. However, it won’t fade the color as much as it does with the distress inks.
Peg C
I meant with the Gansai water colour
Darlene DeVries
Oh, sure! The splatters will look the same. Sorry about that! 🙂
Brenda L.
Thank you so much Peg, you are so sweet. I hope after the holidays to get crafty again. Hugs, Brenda
