Coloring on Black Cardstock

Chalkola

Hi All!

For both of my videos this week, I have BRIGHT colors. Today’s card uses Chalkola markers. I sometimes get emails from companies who want me to use their products. They offer to send them for free, and I can “try them out” to see if I like them. These markers fall into that category. I’m always hesitant to accept products in this way, because I will only use products I genuinely like in my videos. But, with these markers, I was really intrigued.

They are fluid chalk in a paint-pen type of marker. They are nonpermanent on porous surfaces (similar to a write-on-wipe-off marker), but they are permanent on paper. The best thing about them is how opaque they are. It’s hard to get good color on black cardstock, even with pigment inks. The best way I’ve found until these markers was Derwent Coloursoft pencils, but the Chalkola markers are brighter and easier to use. And even better, they are fairly inexpensive. Here is a close-up:

One of the many things I love about you Darlene is that you are constantly introducing new techniques and products for us to try, this is just great. I’ve never heard of this markers, I’ve heard of chalk pastels but those are dry, this are like a thick paint in marker form and the colors are so vibrant and beautiful, those little flowers on your card look lovely. Thank you so much for sharing this new product with us.

Love it Darlene. Love the vibrant colours you chose. I would like to see a comparison with other card stock. Eg perhaps white. I will have to check if they are available in Australia. Thanks again for a wonderful video.

Darlene I really love these Chalkoka markers but they seem to be sold only through Amazon and they aren’t able to be posted to Australia. Do you or anyone else know of any similar liquid chalk markers to give this same vivid colour on black?

To be honest, I haven’t seen any until these! I’m so sorry that they aren’t available in Australia. 🙁

Hi Darlene! I persevered and found some Brazon liquid chalk marker pens with 3mm tips for $15.50 for 8 colours on Ebay with free postage Australia wide. They work well. Here is the website for anyone in Australia who is interested: http://www.brazon.com.au

These markers are fantastic!! I added them to my wishlit at Amazon. I love how vibrant they are on black cardstock and I bet they would be equally great on other dark cardstocks. Thanks for sharing and the card is just awesome!!
