Hi All!
I’m a big-time planner, so I’m excited for this month’s challenge. I know a lot of you like to make your holiday cards early, so I thought it would be a great month for a holiday theme! I usually make several holiday cards in addition to my family photo card, which I haven’t started planning yet. It’s a big project for me that I take very seriously. I’ll spend several weeks thinking through the details. I will definitely share it with you when it’s ready!
I understand that many people don’t celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah, so this theme includes winter cards and Happy New Year as well.
If you are new to the community, I encourage you to check out the Challenges Page for detailed information about how the challenges work.
The last day to submit your entry is Monday, August 31st, 11:59pm CT. One random winner will be selected from all entries and announced on Tuesday, September 1st.
The giveaway will be a $25 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp, one of my favorite stores!
Even though a random winner is selected at the end of the month, the challenge is open indefinitely. Please continue to post to the challenges. Continuously seeing everyone’s new work is a win for everyone’s inspiration!
Okay, just to recap the main rules:
- Your entry must celebrate the holidays or winter in some way.
- You can submit as many entries as you like! However, please submit only one entry per card.
- After submitting your entry, leave a comment on the entry just before yours.
- Leave more comments on entries, if you’re so inclined. 🙂
- To be eligible for a prize, you must be an active member of LiveLoveCards at the time the winner is announced.

I made today’s card with the Deco Trees die from Simon Says Stamp. Not only do I love the tree, but I love the sentiment that comes with it. Such a practical set!
Courtney was in my craft room creating her 15th beaded lizard key chain while I created this card. I was actually ripping my first version apart when she saw me pull off the inside panel. She said, “Why not have it open like that, Mom?” Indeed!
The back red panel is actually a single piece of cardstock. Here is a photo of how the card opens:
Need more inspiration? There are lots of holiday cards in the Theme Gallery under “Holiday”.
Enjoy the video and have fun. 🙂

The front panel is so clever. What a great way to open a card. Courtney is to be lauded for her idea. Love that die, too. It really makes your card unique.
Diana
Lovely!! The hinged flap is a great idea. So fun to watch you create. Thanks!!
Andrea
This card is just super cool! Love the way you made it to open with the hinge. I thought that red paper was actually patterned paper. Way to go using a non-holiday stamp set to create your own pattern! You’ve given me a few ideas, I think. Thanks for sharing this! 🙂 ~ Andrea

Loved the clever card opening and how you created your own background paper. Pretty card!
Irene
I thought at first the border was embossed. Love that die. I’ve gone back and forth on buying it, but I always love how it looks.

Very clever card. Love the tree die and how all elements came together … clean and elegant.

OMG how do you come up with these ideas??!! Aahhh to be able to spend a few hours inside you head! Hey maybe you can do a video telling/showing us how you think this stuff up! I live this card. Ingenious!
Darlene DeVries
Haha Amy. I’m afraid it would probably be a little nightmare-ish in my head. Things roll and roll around up there for a long time before they come out!

Darlene, I love, love the this card, it’s beautiful, the die cut tree looks so whimsical and delicate with those shiny sequences. And the hinge opening, genus!!!
Thank you for this fabulous challenge, it will get everyone started on their Holiday card making.

I get such inspiration here at Live Love Cards! Thank you, Darlene! I also wanted to let Lila Toff know how much I like her snowman card. It is a “Happy Christmas” card indeed! I just wasn’t able to tell her on “Flicker” because I don’t have an account. Thanks also to all of the challenge contributors for the inspiration. I have lots of great ideas for my 2015 Christmas cards now.
