Sea Life

I’ve been dying to use this Otterly Awesome set! If you ask anyone in my family what my favorite animal is, they will not hesitate to say sea otter. Otter stamps seem to be popular right now, but I seriously think this set has the cutest otters of all of them. There is also an accessory stamp set, although I didn’t use it on this card. My favorite is seeing the baby on his mother’s belly, so that’s what I created for this card. The die actually cuts her arms out to hold the baby – too adorable for words.

I did no-line coloring, which I don’t do very often because it can be both time consuming and difficult! They aren’t colored perfectly, but I think they are good enough. 🙂

Here is a close-up of the otters:

I look forward to seeing your entries!

The basic design is by Sandy Allnock. She did a darling card using the otter set that Darlene used. I don't have that set, but I do have one by Local King with these sea turtles and the jar. The rocks and plants were done freehand. It reminds me good times snorkeling in Hawaii with the turtles.

Cased from Pinterest, from article by KathleenStamps Seaside shore set from SU, copics, fancy frost sequins and tiny bubbles embossing folder. Unfortunately I had to use the sentiment sticker because I forgot to stamp before embossing.

Great challenge. I used my brayer on this card, as well as sponging. Four colors of SU! ink for the sky and the sand and ranger distress and distress oxide inks for the water, I have had this stamp set for years and I don't think I've ever used it! I embossed the sentiment in black and ran the panel and the black mat together using the SU! sea side EF. Adhered onto Kraft card base. Thanks for looking : )
Stand out from the Crowd

The fish are from the Echo Park "Mermaid Kisses" stamp set. I used Lawn Fawn inks, orange and blue-green glitter gel pens and clear Wink of Stella. I cut the windows with Lawn Fawn and My Favorite Things dies. The sentiment is from the My Favorite Things "Essential Sentiments" set. ~ Rebecca Sennholtz
Simple Sand Dollar Friendship Card
Simple Sand Dollar Friendship Card
I stamped the sand dollar from the Echo Park "Mermaid Kisses" set with Antique Linen Distress Ink, embossed it with Versamark and clear embossing powder, then fussy cut it. The background is white card stock scored to look like boards, then covered with SU!'s Tip Top Taupe ink. The "Friends" stamp is from a Stamps of Life set. I popped the sand dollar up with some 3D foam over some cording I had in my stash. ~ Rebecca Sennholtz

I am really enjoying making shaker cards and this set is perfect! The fish bowl is white card stock with Bo Bunny blue glitter paste and I colored the fish with my new copics! The clear drops are from a clear pearl pen.
Wetlands Birthday Card
Wetlands Birthday Card
I love this set from SU called Wetlands for masculine cards! The background was done with the swiping technique I saw done by The Serene Stamper maybe a year ago. I used SU soft sky, smokey slate and crumb cake.

Winter the Dolphin card
My friend wanted a custom card for her daughter's 7th birthday and it HAD to be Winter, so I found a photo of him on the internet and used Microsoft Word to "create" my card then printed it on my color printer. Needless to say, Chiara loved it!

One more card. I created the background with acrylic paint and texture paste on white CS using lids as stamps. I sprayed it with pearlized liquid and then stamped directly on it for the small fishes and sentiment and fussy cut the bigger fish and adhered with dimensionals. Anita C.

The artist of this sea life scene is Andreja Vucajnk. I enjoyed colouring it on watercolour paper, with my Kuretake Zig markers. I added Wink of Stella for some sparkle.

Wonderful Starfish Paper and Ink Sketch #18.JPG
Darlene's video inspired me to pull my stamp set out and create a starfish. I used a sketch by Paper and Ink Sketches #18. This was enjoyable to make after watching Darlene create with the star and then pulling out patterned paper. The paper is from My Mind's Eye.

I hope mermaids count as sea life! There is a starfish at any rate. 🙂 Another card using Bugaboo Stamps image & greeting.
Avery Elle That Bites
Avery Elle That Bites
I used Faded Jeans, Broken China, and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Inks as a background after stamping the 2 Avery Elle That Bites fish, and colouring them with Copic markers. I then masked the fish and applied the background ink. Then I flicked with a paint brush to make large, medium and small water drops in an attempt to have them look like water bubbles. I also stamped in Faded Jeans some little water bubbles from the stamp set. In all my wisdom, I decided to make a few water bubbles go across the right fish but am not sure how well this worked. My hubby liked it though! Ha! Ha! Then I used the Avery Elle Wonky stitched rectangle die. This gave me the correct placement for the sentiment Birthday Fishes from a SSS set which was stamped in versa mark and heat embossed in white, After adhering the panel to the front of the card base, I used self-adhesive Google eyes on each fish. This card is going to a whimsical person and so it was made with that in mind.
Purple turtle

I saw a purple turtle card on instagram and thought my niece would love a similar card. Her bedroom is a beach theme.

Hi Darlene! This card is so adorable. I’ve been contemplating otters and resisting all of them. But I agree with you that this stamp set, which I hadn’t seen, is the cutest of the lot. Even so, I will continue to resist buying one for the time being! But, if a cute Meerkat stamp set comes out, I’m sure I won’t be able to resist it because they happen to be my favourite animal.

Hi Connie. Did you see this meerkat set? I thought about getting it but never pulled the plug. They look a little more like tigers than meerkats. I do love watching those cute little meerkats at the zoo!

Carol, I can’t help myself. I’m spreading the love of shopping. 🙂 I just got another order from SSS. Now, I make the family gather around to open it with me. Haha!

Hi Darlene. Thanks for being an enabler (ha! ha!). I hadn’t seen this meerkat set but it doesn’t look like a meerkat to me. These don’t have slim enough bodies or pointy enough heads and faces. But, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before another set will emerge that I will simply have to buy (smile).

Agreed. Once one set comes out, there’s five, so just hold. 🙂

Aww!! this is Otterly adorable!!! LOL!! Love this sweet mama Otter and Baby, such an endearing image, just like the real ones, seeing the mothers with their babies on their bellies is just such a beautiful display of motherly love.
Love the new look of your blog my dear, you work so hard so we can enjoy visiting even more.
    I have a quick question…..
This past week my hubby and grandchildren were on Spring Break so I had NO FREE TIME to do much crafting so I was wondering if there is still time to send you the cards I uploaded to the March Challenge?
    Please let me know, Ok?
Thank you for the awesome video tour of your blog Darlene, I enjoyed it so much.
    Big hugs,
    Maria.

Hi Maria. You can send the cards anytime – I am collecting them indefinitely. However, I’m planning to do the highlight video on Friday, so the cards may not make it into the video.

Oh, that’s ok, it’s my fault that I waited so long, I will put them in the mail today.
I have a question about the April Challenge…..do the cards have to have an Ocean living creature? I don’t have any Sea creatures but I do have fresh water fish and turtles, etc.
I just uploaded one card featuring a Beta Fish and they live in fresh water, if it doesn’t comply with the theme for this challenge, let me know and I will remove it, ok?
Thanks for another fabulous challenge and video.
    Hugs,
    Maria.

Hi Maria. I received your email about it – sorry I haven’t responded sooner. Thanks for posting your question here so everyone can see it. The answer is YES! Aquatic life – even mermaids would be fine. Anything that spends time in the water.

Oh, thank you for replying Darlene, I was a bit worried about it but now, I’m sure I can come up with more cards using my aquatic critters.
