April Challenge: Dry Embossing!

April Challenge

Are you ready for the next challenge? I think this one is going to be fun. There are many different ways to dry emboss. Most obviously, you could use an embossing folder. Maybe add a twist by using the flip side of your cardstock for a de-bossed look. Or, you could use your dies to make impressions. Even easier… use your bone folder to score some lines in a pattern on your cardstock. Be creative!

The last day to submit your entry is Monday, April 30th, 11:59pm CT. One random winner will be selected from all entries and announced on Tuesday, May 1st.

SimonSaysStamp Gift Voucher
The giveaway will be a $25 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp, one of my favorite stores!

Okay, just to recap the main rules:

  • Your entry must incorporate dry embossing.
  • You can submit as many entries as you like! However, please submit only one entry per card.
  • After submitting your entry, leave a comment on the entry just before yours.
  • Leave more comments on entries, if you’re so inclined. πŸ™‚
  • To be eligible for a prize, you must be an active member of LiveLoveCards at the time the winner is announced and your card must have been made in the current month.

My card for today has less white space than I typically like to have. I used distress oxide inks with my embossing folder and I was very happy with the results:

Again with the birds, I know! What’s come over me? Here is a close-up:

April Challenge

When I was linking supplies, I found out that the Songbird Branch die set I used in the video has been discontinued. It’s such a shame because these leaves have a lovely texture to them.

Enjoy the video. I look forward to seeing your designs!

Crazy Birds stamps & dies, Copic coloring, greeting with SU Labeler Alphabet. I layered 3 extra Crazy Bird die cuts to give a little depth & strengthen those bird legs. For my grandson's 14th birthday.

Frog ponderings
My favourite SU frog watercoloured and fussy cut. I used a piece of mixed media that I had great fun creating. I think the embossed background and strips of paper frame it nicely. Thanks for looking.
Butterfly Embossing Folder
Butterfly Embossing Folder
I know this card looks white but the card-front and card-base are both in Stampin Up pink pirouette. I can't take another photo of it now because I've already sent it to a friend who needs some positive reinforcement. I call her my beautiful butterfly friend as she has a generous heart and a free spirit! Supplies were: Stampin Up pink pirouette and black card-stock. Darice butterfly embossing folder. Stampin Up An Open Heart stamp set (retired) for the sentiment. Stampin Up black enamel dots (retired). Clear Monarch Butterfly stencil. Nuvo Mousse in Lemon Sorbet.
Seashore Embossing Folder
Seashore Embossing Folder
This card features the God's Blessings stamp set by MayMay Made It which has just been released and is so versatile because it includes almost any occasion you would encounter. Tried to create a scene that was supposed to remind you of the ocean and sand, I think it does in real life. The supplies are: Darice Seashore Embossing Folder; Stampin Up Soft Sky cardstock for card front and card base; American Crafts Gold Glitter Paper; and Ranger Gold Embossing Powder.
Get Well Card
Get Well Card
Water colored the background using Mjello Mission Gold for the blue and Finetec for the gold on water color paper. I then selectively dry embossed the perimeter surrounding the frame. The frame I designed & cut on my electronic cutting machine. The flower is printed on my printer and water colored using Zig Kuretake Art & Graphic Twin Markers. The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread stamps.

I dry embossed the background using a stampin' up folder. Cut the leaves out of craft cardstock on my electronic cutting machine. Behind the leaves is a page from an old book with some distress ink on it. The sentiment die and stamps from from Our Daily Bread.
Thank You-Masculine
Thank You-Masculine
I was try to create a masculine thank you card. I dry embossed the background with an embossing plate from Cheery Lyn and inked it with Pumice stone distress ink. Stamped and embossed the sentiment and used brads to attach to the card front.
Sympathy Card
Sympathy Card
I dry embossed the background using an Anna Griffith folder and linen card stock in a peach color. The sentiment is die cut using an Impression Obsession die and white glitter paper. I also die cut two buttons and used metallic thread to tie a bow on the buttons. The ribbon and banner is soft green velvet. The inside of the card has a pop up flower bouquet.

You're a Rock Star
You're a Rock Star
I CASEd this card from one by Kelley Eubanks in the book "Card Sketches for Paper Crafters." I used the "Bubble" embossing folder by Sizzix/Tim Holtz. When I showed the card to my mom, all she could see for the greeting was "You're a Rock." The star behind the greeting really provides the final "word." Not sure now if that comes across. Tfl! πŸ™‚
Mosaic Butterfly watercolor.JPG
Mosaic Butterfly watercolor.JPG
I fell in love with this embossing folder, Darice Butterfly Mosaic, and wanted to water color the image. I used Tombow markers, a waterbrush, then added sparkle. I really enjoyed coloring this embossed image.
Couture Creations Tribal Diamonds Embossing Folder
Couture Creations Tribal Diamonds Embossing Folder
This card idea was in my head and I had to try it today. I'm sure it's not original but it is to me. I took an embossing folder and applied Versamark to the raised portion inside. Then I put in my cardstock and pressed down firmly. I rolled my brayer across both sides to get a good impression. Before heat embossing the card front, I applied 3 different embossing powders (pink, apricot, and lilac) one at a time to get a good colour placement, ending with gold embossing powder sprinkled lightly over everything. I then gold heat embossed 'Happy Birthday" on a small black banner and adhered it to the card front with black foam tape on the back of the banner for dimension. The card front was then adhered to a Hero Arts black notecard. It is important to mention that I tried the technique first on a lighter coloured card stock but it did not look as good as it did when I used black card stock.
Hollyhocks for Mother
Hollyhocks for Mother
I cut the hollyhocks at a friend's house from her die, so I'm afraid that I don't know what that is. the embossing folder is by Provocraft. As Mother's day is coming up, I figured I'd better have some on hand!
Flowering Hello.JPG
Flowering Hello.JPG
I watched a video by Brandy Cox where she used a SU set with flowers. I used a set from a Catherine Pooler Stamp of Approval collection and cascaded the flowers down the front of my card as well as the inside. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder in the Hexagon style. The sentiment is from Gina K Designs, Stippled Flowers.

This is a Bar-4 Size card (3.5 x 4.875 inches). I used the bird punch from Stampin' Up and made a Gold Finch. The large flag is cut from wood grain paper and then dry embossed with a wood grain folder and inked with vintage photo distress ink. The thanks die is from Our Daily Bread.
Shimmer flowers around tulle circle
Shimmer flowers around tulle circle
I'd been wanting to incorporate tulle on a card and finally tried it on this one. The flowers are from a square flower frame die, so I cut them and positioned them in place after color and shimmer misting them. The sentiment is a double die cut glued together. The left strip is CS from my stash. I used thick SU! CS for the card base. The front is embossed all the way up but the photo doesn't show it very well.

Love this card Darlene! Beautiful colors. To place color in small areas I have used eyeshadow applicators before. I haven’t tried them with the Oxide inks but I would bet they would work great.

Great coverage with the oxide ink in the embossing folder, I can’t wait to give it a crack.
Lovely card to kick off this months challenge.

It was very clever how you created a Spring scene by simply adding leaves and green grass. The Oxide ink really went on well. I’ve not used that technique, so must try it. Beautiful card. Those parrokeets could be in a tree out in our backyard here in Australia too.
