Hi All!
I saw a friend with this Altenew stencil at my scrapbook retreat (Hi Lillian!). I decided I had to have it. Rather than stopping at the stamping (which you absolutely could and it still looks fantastic), I added some shading to make the cubes look even more 3D. The stencil is made for coloring 2 cube sides. I made the stencil work for 3 sides because I thought it looked more complete that way.
I experimented with several different color combinations. In the video I created this blue one:
Here is a close-up of the cubes:
I’m sorry to say that the Technique Tuesday Straight Talk Birthday die I used on this card is discontinued. 🙁
I also created a green one with Wild Wasabi cardstock, Wild Wasabi ink, Garden Green ink, and white ink. This one shows the white ink a lot more, so it really stands out:
This one was created with Pink Pirouette cardstock, Pink Pirouette ink, Rose Red ink, and white ink:
Finally I used Basic Gray cardstock and just colored 2 sides with Black Soot ink and white. I colored the sentiment letters with a C4 copic marker:
Enjoy the video!

Yes, I did enjoy that. Those extra steps really make it so much more dimensional. But, it looks like it would take a bit of practice and patience in equal measure. You obviously have both! Great technique. Thanks.

WOW! Great job with the stenciling, Darlene! Love your choice of colors, and adding the white really makes it look real. The stencil looks like it could make some funky chevron patterns, too. I have decided I need to schedule my frustrating days on days when you generally have videos, Darlene. We’ve been dealing with plumbing drain/sewer issues for a few weeks now. I thought that was basically behind us, but our washing machine was still backed up. The repair guy suggested (when I called at first) that it might be a pump issue. Great–get a new pump installed, and we’ll be good to go! Nope. Turns out, the problem is not in the washer; it’s in the plumbing. 😿 So we get to have the plumbers come back out next week to (hopefully) fix the issue. Meanwhile, a friend of ours has offered to do laundry for us, so at least we don’t have to wear dirty clothes or spend some “quality” time at the laundromat. LOL Still aggravating, though! So thank you very much for the 8+ minute distraction from the woes of my world! 😺 ~ Andrea

I’m glad I could help, Andrea! It sounds frustrating. I hate when it takes forever to figure out what the problem is. Especially when it comes to something you definitely need. How nice of your friend to do your laundry – that’s a pretty good friend. 🙂

I have seen a couple of videos with this stencil and I think I will get it! It is very dimensional and really neat to look at! A tip for the vellum on the blue card, you could leave it too wide and then wrap it around the card front before attaching it to your card base. Love the colour choices as well! 😎
Connie
Regarding the tip about wrapping the vellum around the card, I find that his bulges the vellum on front and doesn’t achieve a very neat flat look. Please tell us how you overcome that!
Carol Mac
Connie, I glue it down like Darlene did behind the letters, but when I wrap it around the card, I use my bone folder to crease the edges before they go around the card and it lays flat. HTH

Hi Connie. I wrapped vellum on this card if you want to see how I do it.

Thanks Darlene. I now remember that card but had forgotten you showed us this tip. It was helpful to see again though and I plan to incorporate it in my next card while the technique is fresh in my mind!

Thanks for showing how to use this stencil. It certainly has a lot of potential.

I love the super dimensional look of this fabulous cards, the stencil is amazing but I’m afraid it involves a lot of precision to do it correctly to get it to look right, still it’s so much fun to watch you create this card, I’m blown away by your attention to every single detail.
Big hugs, my dear.
Maria.

I’ve had this stencil and have used it, but you’ve elevated it! I can’t wait to use the stencil again and try out your method! Thanks for the inspiration and ideas!

This stencil is so cool. I have it and need to play with it!

Wow Darlene!! That is a great male card look. Must have a go at using this stencil. Thank you

This is such a great masculine card. I tend to focus on more feminine cards. I am so happy you used Stampin Up ink colors and paper. I have a lot of the Stampin Up ink. When I watch people’s videos and they use inks from other companies I feel like I have to use the same ink as they do. It’s silly!!! Thank you for showing us these super cool cards!!!
